This answer is ever so wrong and will get your car damaged or you hurt.
these procedure are for 95 thru 2000 devilles with a 4.6 l engines
jack vehicle and place on sutable jack stands, block rear tires
remove the lower air shourd from the engine crade under the front of the car , remove upper front cover over rad. and headlight adjustments
3. remove cap from coolant bottle, DISCONNECT NEGITIVE BATTERY CABLE Only
place a large catch basin under the left (driver side) of the vehicle
remove lower rad. at the thermostat housing CAUTION coolant will be flowing quite rapidly insure engine and coolant is cold before you start
remove upper rad. hose from the rad on the right side
carefully remove both electrical fans 10 MM retaing bolts, disconnect electrical connections and retaining zip ties , mark fan for proper reinstall as they are not interchangable
remove fan retaining mount from top of rad. long black plate
remove both 10 mm bolts retaining rad and supports
remove coolant catch basin and replace with a pan to catch transmission fluid
disconnect BOTH transmission cooler lines fron the left (drivers side) of the read one will be at the top and the other close to the bottom. some slight fluid will be lost ( approx 6 to 8 oz)
slightly tilt rad back at the top and remove from the vehicle. place upright in a secure position to prevent damage to the fins they can be damaged very easily.and costly to repair or replace
remove the right front tire from the vehicle
remove the right front inner fender splash sheild which is held in place with #2 crosstip screws and 7mm sheet metal screws
remove serpitine belt using 1/2 drive rachet or braker bar. ( I sugggest investing in a serpitine tensinor removal tool less than 30.00 and can be used on all kinds of other vehicles)
remove the 15mm bolt from lower Alt support it is between the battary ground connection and the A/C
compressor mounting bolt
using a 15 mm boxed end wrench remove the 15mm lower bolts behind the Alt you will have to get under the vehicle and they are tricky to remove as the exhaust and a bracket is very close and a scoket will not access them.
from the top of the engine disconnect the 10mm nut under the black plastic protective cap. be very careful as this is the positive lead back to the battery and will arc out and damage your battery if you did not disconnect the negative cable from the battery STEP 3
Carefully disconnect voltage regulator connection from alt.
remove final 15mm bolt from top rear of the alt. using a 15mm open ended wrench the bolt will not come all the way out and will hit the exhaust manifold.
remove alt from the vehicle.
start reversing procedures to install. REMEMBER to check your serpitine belt for cracks and dammage before you instll it I recommend to always replae it at this time to save future touble,
when installing serpitine belt have an assistant hold the tensioner up while you install the lower part of the belt install the belt on the tensioner pulley last.
after all bolts and covers have been installed replace lost coolant with DEXCOL 50/50 mix with water DONOT use the ethergylcol coolant as it will pnot mix and will damage the entire cooling system.
warm engine up to operating temp and replace coolant cap
check transmission fluid level with engine running and warm and in park top off as needed
check lug bolt torques
