My yaris starts but will not go into gear, if I turn off the engine then it goes into gear

differential sounds when faulty are a deep growl on drive and a high growl during over drive and a harmonic growl when driving normally

VSC stands for vehicle stability control, or traction control.The computer or the driver has switched the system off. If the computer has disabled the system, you would need to have it checked for trouble codes to proceed.

yaw sensor is out of calibration, most likely from hoisting vehicle in air. sensor needs to be calibrated before light will go out. jump pin 3 and 5 of dlc under driver side dash. connect jumper wire with ignition off, turn ignition on, vsc light should flash, let it flash for awhile (10 sec). turn ignition off and disconnect jumper wire.(do this with vehicle station on ground).

Hmm, is this an older car? Blue smoke on start-up is usually a sign of a very minor oil leak going past the rings. I normally do not consider this to be a problem if:

1. The car has sat for an extended period of time.
2. It only happens on the initial start up and doesn't do it after sitting for an hour or so.

most modern vehicles no longer have dipstics, but there is a fill plug, i do not know where it might be but look for a plug with a allen wrench hole on the tpo or upper side of the trans, with the plug removed add fluid untill you can see it thruogh the hole (if on top) or if it is on the side add untill it just starts to seep out at the bottom edge of the plug hole
