the fsm book covers this. (my online skips it, sadly) i went to rockauto.com and its type 1 switch, see that jam nut? as you can see the switch turns for stroke and the jam nut sets it, locks it. ASCD is a speed sensor, and is not adjustable. VSS speed sensor. (red herring, that)

loss of power could be a number of things , i'd have the OBD codes read as will help diagnose which sensor(s)/switch is faulty , it may well be something simple or more serious wont know until you get the OBD read

I would acquire at a local shop that you might expect to preform the above mentioned work....different shops have varying prices...average in one area may be way out of line in another.

Usually it's under the rear part of the engine where it meets the transmission.

You might want to check the distributor. Take the cap off and check if there is play on the rotor shaft. It's only supposed to turn, but if there's play when moving it back and forth, better you replace the distributor now. The 2000-2004 Xterras have a bad distributor shaft and the throttle positioner sensor is on the shaft. Just FYI.
