How do you adjust the ASCD cancel swith on 2001 Xterra?

there are 3 types brake switch
  1. a nut that sets the stroke and you lock the nut.
  2. auto adjusting
  3. and install time adjusting. (special steps different car from car make) found on may cars today, for faster car assembly. Day1
the fsm book covers this. (my online skips it, sadly) i went to rockauto.com and its type 1 switch, see that jam nut? as you can see the switch turns for stroke and the jam nut sets it, locks it. 09c59600-8fef-43a0-9a2d-030fea540914.jpg ASCD is a speed sensor, and is not adjustable. VSS speed sensor. (red herring, that)

loss of power could be a number of things , i'd have the OBD codes read as will help diagnose which sensor(s)/switch is faulty , it may well be something simple or more serious wont know until you get the OBD read

You might want to check the distributor. Take the cap off and check if there is play on the rotor shaft. It's only supposed to turn, but if there's play when moving it back and forth, better you replace the distributor now. The 2000-2004 Xterras have a bad distributor shaft and the throttle positioner sensor is on the shaft. Just FYI.
