Xterra won't start when the battery has juice free of corrosion and starter is freshly installed

Check the cleanliness and tightness of the battery terminals. Loosen, twist and retighten them. Also check the cleanliness and tightness of the black earth cable where it attaches to the engine block/bodywork. A bad earth can cause the symptoms you describe. A quick check you can do is to connect a jump cable to the battery negative terminal - the earth - and connect the other end of the cable to somewhere suitable on the engine/bodywork. If the car starts no problem with the jumper cable - it's pointing towards a bad earth/connection somewhere on the battery earth

I have a 2001 nissan xterra - will not engage in reverse gear - any solutions?

Does it seem to bog down when in reverse as you accelerate? If so the trans maybe stuck in forward gear (mechanical problem) resulting in both forward & rev being applied.

2001 Nissan xterra temp gauge rises to H when idling?

Dear George, I'll start with the most common cause. Check the radiator cooling fan to see if it is functioning correctly. It is turned on by a sensor that screws into the engine block, and there is also a relay in the under-hood electrical box. Finally, the electric fan is mounted at the radiator. There should be 2 fans there, one of them is for engine cooling, one for Air Conditioner cooling. The engine cooling fan should come on anytime the engine temperature exceeds the setting of the screw-in-the-block sensor. If it does not, it could be the sensor, the relay, or the cooling fan itself that has failed. If you live in an area of the country that is prone to extreme cold temperature, "road salt" can contribute to fan failure. If all these check OK, write us back and tell us, we'll go to step # 2. God bless your efforts.

My 2001 xterra started making a weird sound between 20 and 35 mph. It sounds like there is a leak in some pressure system.

Common Car Noises and Their Likely Causes Noise More Details Likely Cause Fixing It Clicking noise while turning Starts faint, gradually becomes more noticeable until very loud Failed outer CV joint (constant velocity joint) due to torn boot (most likely) or old age Replace either the whole axle assembly (recommended) or the outer CV joint Water pump noises Difficult to diagnose because of water pump's location Noise usually caused by damage to the bearings in failed water pump Only cure is replacing it. If possible do it at the same time as a timing belt replacement to cut down on labor costs Squeak or squeal from an engine belt Loud, high-pitched squeak or squeal Belts either need adjustment or replacing If belts only squeak when damp, they probably just need adjustment. If they squeak constantly, they probably need to be replaced Exhaust heat shield noises Rattle that you hear when car is idling Damaged heat shield Replace heat shield

3.3v6 fuel line has crusty deposits where it clamps to the plenum and also seems to be oozing from where it clamps to the metal line below the plenum.

If you are using fuel that is an ethanol blend, it may have caused the fuel line to degrade or it has absorbed water and is causing this.

First get a new glass on the way, then YouTube window installation for your type of vehicle, seeing how window regulators are replaced might give you a partial idea towards replacement.
Best of luck!

0300 reading

P0300 is a code that indicates the engine has a random cylinder misfire. The causes of this are so numerous as to not to be able to provide any real help without hands on testing. You also may need the engine control computer flashed, many vehicle makes did updates because this code keep setting and no problem was found to justify it.

Can I by pass the egr on my xterra it does not have the connection on the upper part of the motor

Depends on a lot of things. 1) Does the location of your home have any vehicle inspections that require a state or local inspection? If so, you are very likely in big trouble. If not, you might be home free. Maybe. 2) You will need to check with, and make friends with, your local Nissan dealer, to see if the frontier motor had the EGR in another location, so you could still hook it up with longer vacuum lines. 3) By passing the system could at least cause your "Check Engine" light to stay on forever, and at worst, could cause your engine to stop running right, or at all over time, because the computer is set to read the EGR system and adjust the engine to the readings that the EGR tell it to. 4) If all that is missing is that valve, and absolutely nothing else, it might be remotely possible to drill a hold in the upper intake and screw an EGR into it and hook it up, but I wouldn't place any bets on the outcome. God bless your efforts.

A/C compressor spins, but why is there no cold air?

You may need a shop manual to get the wiring diagrams and test procedures. The ac compressor gets power from several sources and those would need to be checked. The control on the dash, the low and high pressure switches, the relay, and so on. If the compressor is ok, you should be able to jumper the clutch like you did and feel one line cold and the other line warm if freon is flowing thru the system.
