probably not all that difficult to fix it you have patience. The needle going way past full is an indication of a short before the sender unit or in the sender unit. Pull the power wire from the sender unit and see what the gauge does. IT should stay on the empty mark. IT may be just a fuel sender unit .

need a local pair of ears to diagnose this ,it could be anything from a fan belt to water pump ,please remember this has jaguar on the paperwork but its a ford mondeo in a different shape body ,a true jag has a big petrol engine ,very high compression ratio with domed pistons ,manual gearbox and it can outrun a porsche or the old bill ,a east end of london proper boys car like ,know what i mean . And i have an old one XJ6 4ltr

the headlamp fuses are in the fascia fuse box right or left lower a post depending on market as follows . f9 rh low f10 rh high f11 lh low f25 lh low all 10 amp hpoe this helps

Few things to check would be the battery, then the starter, and if that is good could be the crankshaft position sensor.

Take it to a good mechanic if you don't know how to check these out as that would be the best bet.

likely to be paddle flap motor died, they used to be manual, so the vent is letting in cool air only, the flap changes position for the heat to enter, the flap on yours is not moving, so likely to be the motor

change the spark plug then check for water getting in to the engine control module/connector its under the plastic housings lh side looking sat in the drivers seat it was a common problem
