2008 Jaguar S Type - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Can I ues 5-40 synthetic oil in my 2005 2.7 D S Type Jaguar
I would consult the owner's manual or an online forum for Jaguar. Synthetic oil can be used in any engine that regular oil is used in. The weight of the oil should be specified in the owner's manual and probably also on a decal beneath the hood, maybe on the air cleaner. I am not familiar with Jaguars so don't know what they specify. Most modern cars use 5-X muti-vis oil; It is supposed to act like 5 W oil on starts to make it easier to start and to get oil circulating to the top of the engine where it has dripped down since the engine was last run. The X would be the supposed viscosity once the engine is running. You can always use a heavier oil and it will provide better protection of internal parts, particularly at the top of the engine on cold starts but you generally sacrifice a little fuel mileage.
