Where is the fuel pump

There is no fuelpump reset on this type of car, you may have a bad fuelpump, a quick trick to see if the pump is bad that sometimes works is to have someone hit the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber hammer while you try to start it and if the car starts then the pump is bad, good day.

How can I fix a

A fully clogged converter will choke the back-pressure of the exhaust and cause the engine to quit in a couple of minutes. A partially clogged converter will affect the performance of the engine as well. Decreased fuel efficiency is one of the most common causes.
--------------------
In any case it has to be replaced.

The catalytic converter is mounted in the engine exhaust stream ahead of the muffler. Its function is to combine carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC) with oxygen and break down nitrogen oxide (NOx) compounds. These gasses are converted to mostly CO 2 and water. It heats to operating temperature within about 1-2 minutes, depending on ambient and driving conditions and will operate at temperatures up to about 1500°F (816°C). Inside the converter housing is a single or dual bed ceramic monolith, coated with various combinations of platinum, palladium and rhodium.

The catalytic converter is not serviceable. If tests and visual inspection show the converter to be damaged, it must be replaced. There are 2 types of failures: melting or fracturing. The most common failure is melting, resulting from unburned gasoline contacting the monolith, such as when a cylinder does not fire. Usually when the monolith melts, high backpressure results. When it cracks, it begins to break up into small particles that get blown out the tail pipe.

Poor fuel mileage and/or a lack of power can often be traced to a melted or plugged catalytic converter. The damage may be the result of engine malfunction or the use of leaded gasoline in the vehicle. Proper diagnosis for a restricted exhaust system is essential before any components are replaced. The following procedure that can be used to determine if the exhaust system is restricted.

Raise and safely support the vehicle.Inspect the catalytic converter protector for any damage.
If any part of the protector is dented to the extent that is contacts the converter, replace it.Check the heat insulator for adequate clearance between the converter and the heat insulator.

-----------

Getting it replaced by professional mechanic at auto garage store is advisable,as they will also check the muffler ,the exhaust pipe the sensors and parts too while replacing the catalytic converter .---------

I have a 1997 oldsmobile

It does sound like a bad switch --- possibly arcing and overheating -- or it could be dirty / corroded contacts on the switch or in the wiring harness connector.

The switch should come out fairly easily after getting access to the back of it -- it probably has tabs on it which when pressed in will allow the switch to come out the front.

Charlie

P.S. The blower motor resistor would not cause an overheating switch -- a bad resistor would at worst allow maximum current to go through the switch -- the switch is designed to run the blower at full speed (maximum current) w/o overheating...

Battery runs down over night

Classic question. Likely causes, check the DOME light switch in in the proper position. My wife had this problem for a week before she figured it out.
Make sure all of the lights are turning off after leaving the car. The car WILL use some power all the time. This can cause a dead battery on vehicles with older batteries. But, since you have already replaced the battery, we assume this is not the case.
I would go to the fuse panel and remove fuses one at a time an insert a current (ammeter) in series an look to find which circuit is using power. This can be a little difficult because you need to be sure the doors are shut, etc, so you don't have lights on. There will be a small draw on one or more circuits that power the keyless entry, etc. With a new battery, you are probably looking for something in the range of 0.5 amps or more. Anything less probably would not result in a dead battery overnight.
Oh, before doing any of this, verify your charging system is working properly...you should have 13.7 to 15.1 volts on the battery with the engine running.

Battery runs down overnight the

It is likley that there is a draw on the system draining the battery while it sits, could be a bad alternator. Try disconnecting the battery when you park the car for the night, re-connect it in the morning and see if it's ok. Then get the electrical system checked to confirn either alternator or system draw.
