first make sure the unit if off first then take the tank off and then tank the rest off of the base. once you take the part with the fan off the filter goes right in there. if you have any other questions please let me know.

Wondering if damage to Holmes HM500 humidifier is fixable...?

unfortunately running the unit for too long will permanently ruin the unit. there isn't really a way to fix it. i do deeply apologize for that. so unfortunately you might have to replace the unit.

No mist

i would try cleaning the coils for the heat portion. if they are to scally that could be one reason why it's not making any mist. but if it looks pretty clean or if you have cleaned it and it's still not making any mist then it's something internal. now if your under warranty still that's a good thing. you can always call the manufacturer and they can replace theunit for you under warranty . if you have any other questions please let me know.

How do i clean the fan blades

I am assuming a lime buildup from evaporated water. Use vinegar or drip coffee maker cleaner.

I can't remove the grill above the fan so I can clean the blades

I have a Holmes cool-mist One-Touch Humidifier, and you can't reach the blades to clean them, and you can't take the console apart. I finally decided to use two spray bottles and clean and them rinse the Humidifer while holding the console upside down and over a sink. The one bottle you could fill with any mild cleaner plus a lot of water to dilute the cleaner. Maybe dishwashing liquid (not the dishwasher stuff), or a little bit of ammonia, or rubbing alcohol, or vinegar. Spray that on the blades while the machine is upside down, and a lot of sooty dirt drips out. Then rinse with another spray bottle full of plain water. Leave the console upside down on a towel to drip-dry. This is also how you can clean silk flowers that collect dust.

Holmes HM4600 Humidifier LEAKING - - HELP

well since you just purchased this item, you should be able to return it for exchange, and it should still be under warranty, but if thats not doable, then it sounds to me like its a O-ring that is bad if the tanks are removable, best bet though is to exchange it, look at your home owners paperwork, to see about the warranty, more than likely your covered, hope that helped,

My whole house unit mdl

Hey Tony, Thanks for the Question,
Does it specifically state that that replacement is 5 years or just parts? you have to read the fine print sorry to say, but if it is the whole unit then yes, they will replace the whole thing,
If its parts only then maybe they would send you out a new tank which more than likely would solve your problem too! hope that was helpful, let us know and please leave some feed back on how we did, thanks again,

Waters tanks never empty

Either you have no wick/filters or they are installed incorrectly. Tanks should empty within hours.

Will not reset

Per the operators manual you have to reset it. 1. Unplug the unit
2. Remove and refill the water tank, being sure to follow the Daily
Maintenance Instructions. Replace the tank onto the base.
3. Wait 5 minutes for the Automatic Shut-Off to reset.
4. After the 5 minutes, plug in the unit and turn the unit on to HIGH
(HI). The RESET light should now be off (if not repeat steps 1 through
3). In about 2-3 minutes, the humidifier will begin to produce
moisture.

Need to find a new water tank

Mine also cracked along the seam several years ago. I sealed the crack using two-part waterproof plastic epoxy (found at any hardware store.) Not really pretty to look at, but it hasn't leaked since!

Iron/rust in water

You can use distilled water to fill your humidifier that would save your filters.
Or you can try soaking your filter in a 50-50 water and white vinegar solution to try and clean them to use again.

Good Luck.

Humidifier does not reset

According to Holmes, one of the causes of the Reset light staying on is scale buildup on the heating element.

Remove Scale: Allow to cool before maintenance.
1. Repeat steps 1-5 in the Daily Maintenance section.
2. Clean the base by partially filling the base with one
8-oz cup of undiluted white vinegar. Let solution stand
20 minutes, cleaning all interior surfaces with a soft
brush. Dampen a cloth with undiluted white vinegar
and wipe out entire base to remove scale.
3. Rinse with clean warm water to remove scale and the
white vinegar solution before beginning to disinfect
the tank.
4. Wipe the heating element clean with a soft cloth after
it has had chance to cool.

If the scale has really built up it might take longer than 20 mins for the vinegar to get rid of it and you might need to refresh with new vinegar.

Your Manual can be found at this link:

Good Luck.
