unfortunately on a cool mist unit the mist shouldn't show up. on most units that's what it does. the warm mist units show the mist.. the best way to tell is if you put your hand over the spout that the mist is suppose to come out of for about 2 minutes and you pull it away and it feel clammy then it's working. if your hand is still dry please let me know and i'll see what else i can do for you.

You really have an mineral problem. I have pretty much same here. I only use bottle water that comes in gallon size from grocery. Ot is the only way I have found other than constand cleaners or a water softener. Good luck

Hard water will build up on the rubber plunger casket and the beveled edge were the plunger seats in the cap, if you clean both pieces it will seat it self again

Go to http://www.holmesproducts.com/service-%26-support/product-support/instruction-manuals/humidifiers/humidifiers-manual.html and see if one of those listed will help you. The specific model HMS 250 seems to be out of print, but the current ones may help you with what you need to know.

If not, contact them at https://www.holmesproducts.com/contactus?cid=contact-us and see if they will email you the correct one.

If the water has been sitting in the reservoir for days without use, it may develop a film on the ultrasonic element which inhibits the creation of the mist to come out the top of your humidifier. I would lift off the tank and empty the reservoir. Then VERY GENTLY with a piece of paper towel, wipe the ultrasonic element (looks like a disk the size of a quarter at the bottom of the reservoir) to clean off any film. Then replace the tank and let the reservoir fill up the tank and try it again.

Good luck

Blower motor went out and blew fuse. You will have to replace the blower motor.

You either have a locked pump, impeller or stripped impeller on the pump shaft. Remove the jet pump assy and repair the pump and or impeller. You can also replace the pump assy.

after scouring the INTERNET AND FINDING PLENTY OF SITES THAT WOULD SELL ME THE WHOLE CAP FOR 24.00. I MAD MINE USING SOMETHING FROM ace hardware THAT COST 2.50 Small suction cups with the hook [CDBL-7500S11] PART NUMBER 7500 .CAN BE MODIFIED INTO MAKING YOUR OWN GASKET. IT WORKED FOR ME ..REMOVE HOOK FROM SMALL SUCTION CUP. cut off nib with sharp pair of scissors. THEN DRILL HOLE THROUGH CENTER OF CUP WITH 7/64 DRILL BIT. re insert plunger part of cap through cap with spring and re- attach suction cup instead of gasket. MINE WORKS FINE ON A HOLMES 3700

You might need to clean around the heating element...
we have very hard water and calcium builds up on and around the heating element and all the surrounding parts. I take it apart and pour CPR around the element and scrub with a brush .. once you get it clean it should stay running.

Mine dried out too. I could not find where to get the rubber valve seal for the tanks. Holmes does not list the part and when I called the rep told me they didid not stock the part. I solved my problem by purchasing thin rubber washers from Lowe's. They are 3/16 X 1 1/4 X 1/16 thick. The 3/16 hole in the center "snaps" on over the end of the plastic plunger just like the original. I had to trim the outside diameter with scissors to about 1" or using the old ones as a guide. Cost me $0.67

The steam is condensing as it is expelled. The solution is to place a sheet of plastic underneath the unit to protect the surface

When this happened to me, I took the tank into the bathroom to look at the bottom and then I tried to turn the knob and it wasn't all the way tight. After I tightened it, I put it back on the base and the mist started right away.
