Why will drill turn but not hammer ?
Simple answer....because you don't have it on the HAMMER setting? They can either Hammer, Drill, or do both so make sure you have it in the right setting to get what you want.
Do you have to grease the Hilton Te72 hammer drill
I'm guessing you do! I just bought a Harbor Freight Hammer Drill (which probably isn't as expensive as your Hilton but I won't be using it that much so I wasn't going to buy and expensive one!) but there is a reservoir with a cap that they provided a little tool to remove. once removed, the pocket is filled with grease and it says right on the Harbor Freight drill to replace the grease after so many hours of usage. One thing I did notice when I was using the drill was that it would get really hot at the chuck...where the drill bit is placed. I opened the cap and the grease was pretty much gone so I put more in there. The grease they gave me seems to liquify when it gets hot and runs out the chuck. So if you have the same symptoms of this grease leaking out when the drill get's hot..my guess is you need grease too! Look online for you model and see if they show you where to put it...if you need it that is?
Can this drill be used as a hammer only for chipping?
if it is an elcheapo drill then it cannot be used for hammering only
it can only be used as a drill or a hammer drill
what you need is an expensive hammer drill ( Ramset or HILTI for masonry work that can accommodate a chisel tool and be used for chipping
however if you want to just chip there are cheap air driven chisels , that will do the job
find a good tool shop and there will be a range of tools that will do what you want
