We have a Philips plasma tv. The left hand side of screen goes dark red when you turn it on (not always immediately, sometimes takes a minute). clears for a while then section starts in the middle of screen and works across to the left side again. Sometimes just on left other times quick section at top left or bottom and then goes back to left half of screen. Never on right hand side. When the tv picture changes sometimes you get a frozen image in the dark section on the left. Problem usually resolves after about an hour of the tv being on but recently it has started doing it again off and on when the tv has been on for hours. If you hit the top of the tv with your hand it clears it but then it comes back. Does this make sense? Please help, it is so frustrating!

Plasma? Your power supply has bad capacitors. 3300uf most likely. This is a common problem on some Philips plasma TVs. Power board is located top center of the TV with the rear access panel removed. look toward the lower left portion of the board. If you notice any capacitors (they look like little plastic wrapped cans) with swollen tops or leaking dark fluid from the top of them, replace them. Myself, I always step up the voltage rating... ex: 3300uf, 10v -> 3300uf, 16v.
Sounds like your lamp is bad. I think this is the set where you have to take the whole back off to replace the lamp. Once you take the back off, its on the left hand side.
Inside your television are 3 different sets of pixels (red, green, blue) If a pixel goes out or actually stays on there is no way that that can be repaired/replaced. Pixels are considered to be part of the panel of the tv and it is more cost efficient to replace rather than repair. Call your manufacturer immediately. See if you are still in warranty and perhaps they can replace your unit.
probably you got a processing unit problem, which makes your tv stopping recognizing the screen information . you should try resetting all factory default settings, if this doesn't work, you will have to take the TV to an assistance center .
I would have a tech come out and look at it. Sometimes the ribbon connectors from the upper or lower buffer boards have poor or corroded contacts. Should'nt be a major deal since it comes and goes.
I have a similar issue. Sometimes the entire screen goes black and sometimes only one-half - either the top or bottom half goes black. The only solution we have found is to gently tap the TV (usually the front side) and the picture will come back for awhile. It almost seems heat related as it only goes out after the first 10 minutes of use. There must be a fix to this.
I'm not an expert, but I have determined that the vertical bars that are often red, sometimes blue ... and sometimes both ... are related to a bad control board. I've also read that a common fix is to buy a repair kit with includes the ysus, zsus and control boards ... all replaced together. My experience was that after a month or two with the 1.5" wide stripes, that you eventually loose the entire picture and have sound only. MIne comes back, but won't stay working for very long and the stripes are always there (buy used to fade and flicker sometimes). I'm planning on replacing the control board.
