My machine does not recognize my full 4gb of ram. Recently it was running on 3gb ram which suddenly dropped to 2.5 after i moved some hardware around. Now i have installed 4gb and still only 2.5 is recognized. Help appreciated.
I have 4 x 1GB sticks. I can place any 2 in any 2 slots and it will work fine and I have full access to the 2GB when I place all 4 is when it goes down to 2.5. Will my video card, Nvidia 8600GT 512mb be causing this?

I have same problem but with 2x2GB RAM. I changed the slots with all variants but still 3GB. Individually inserted both of them were 2 GB so not mislabelled or something. Can this MB support 4GB really?I have same problem but with 2x2GB RAM. I changed the slots with all variants but still 3GB. Hey First of all kindly specify what how many rams slots and how many ram chips are there like 1 X 4GB or 2 X 2 GB Generally, with RAM there can be a few problems 1) the frequency of ram whichmotherboard supports might be less than the freq at which the ramyou are puttin works, hence in this case RAM wont work on this motherboard and ull have to get the RAM replaced 2) some motherboards donot support a 1 x 4 GB RAM where as they might support a 2 X 2 RAM (ifyou do have 2 mem slots for ram) and then there is the mosttrivial problem of the slot not being clean or arm not being putproperly, i can think of ne other reason for the ram not workingproperly.. These are the specs, but I don't see 64 Bits support. Hence it must be running 32 bit and Windows 32 Bit has a 3GB limitation. Furthermore, even if it did recognize it. Your applications must be written to utilize more RAM. For instance I have 16GB and never seen the usage go more 3GB.
What you are seeing is correct. You have 4GB of physical RAM installed in the computer and it is being recognized properly by the BIOS. A 32-bit operating system can only address approximately 3.5GB of RAM. Vista may be rounding the number down to 3GB or if you are using on-board video, some of the RAM is being allocated for use by the video circuitry and is not reported as system memory. To see all of the installed RAM in your operaing system, you need to upgrade to a 64-bit version of Vista.
Hi there. I recommend you get another stick of SODIMM to replace what seems to be the faulty stick. If you are using XP or Vista X86 (32bit) then the system will only recognize 2.8 - 3GB of memory, only 64bit operating systems recognize the full 4GB.
If your OS is reading the 4Gb, it will be running the 4GB even if the bios is only seeing 3GB. You may just need to update the firmware on your motherboard but I suggest that you just leave it as is since the OS is recognizing the 4GB.
