What Epiphone model did I purchase?

Sounds like perhaps a Les Paul Special II, but more detail is needed to say for sure. There was a lot of variation in their Les Paul models. Posting a photo of both sides and the headstock is best.

-Has the guitar any binding, and what colour?
-Is the back of the guitar white or all black?
-Exactly what is on the front of the headstock, 'Epiphone', the 4-diamond logo, anything else?

Hum that increases as as the volume is turned down both pickups. Hum decreases when I touch any metal srface on the guitar

Ground wire is not attached

okay. the ground needs to travel through all your components.you have the -input jack, - vol. & tone pots, the -switch & all - pick ups. All should meet at the body ground. Usually there is a wire that comes from the saddle, through the guitar, and enters somewhere in the access in back. (remove the plate that cover your vol. and tone pots). Good Luck

Make you a hook out of a coat hanger. Get inside and hook the wiring to the jack, take the nut off the jack and pull it up through the F hole. You can plug in to it a patch cord so you can pull it back through once fixed. Check out Guitarelectronics.com for a wiring diagram.

Peavey signiture EX wiring

if the signature ex has any special plugs then the actuall diagram for that guitar is needed. but if it uses the standard two or three potential meter ( volume knobs and tone knobs or (pots) ) with a pick up selector and an input. then you can use any guitar wiring diagram and i think you can find that on web. wiring the pick up should be shown in the diagram with the pick up selector.

Epiphone volume and tone controls

The controls should be setup in pairs (as long as the electronics haven't been modified. The two closest to the pickups are the volumes and the other two are the tone controls. The top knob set should be your neck pickup and the bottom set is for the bridge.
