There's a possibility that your battery is bad. and if you want to check that you have a known good ac adapter. here are the steps that you can try.

1. turn off the laptop. (shut it down properly).
2. remove the battery and disconnect the charger.
3. plug in the charger without the battery.
4. power on the laptop.

note: if it comes on normally. it means, that your charger works fine. from that point, you could isolate if it's a battery or a charger issue.

Good luck,

Ryan

Acer Aspire 5315 charging circut fuse

So you have removed the battery from this laptop for at least 30secs - 1minute? Not really sure about a laptop fuse? Test your DC jack for continuity - with a volt meter - outside prong and inside stem. Those will be the first few steps to finding your issue.

Acer 5315 won't charge unless i hold the lead in at the back! i've replaced the battery already now wondering if the lead is the problem ? what do you think?

Most laptops push a lot of power through that plug.
Have someone who knows about repairing them take a look to make sure the lead is the problem first, otherwise, it is a problem inside the laptop.
The contacts inside the laptop overheat and become unsoldered. A good repair shop should be able to fix it without new parts by resoldering the connection inside the unit.

A few days ago my Acer aspire 5315 was doing a windows update when the battery ran out. Today when I plugged the battery in to the mains and started the computer a message flashed up which I did not have...

Try holding the power button in for about ten seconds, this should power it off - hopefully aftr this it will either start up correctly or give you the opportunity to see the error message.

Acer aspire 5315 batt problem

Hello,

Please run this unit on A/C only and see if it powers up like that. If it does not, then the A/C adapter is faulty and thus cannot charge your battery.

Service the battery by hitting it flat onto your hand palm or onto the back of your shoe and retry to see if it is charging.

Acer 5315 Battery cHarging Problems

All rechargeable batteries have a limited life, and as they age their charge capacity reduces over time and you get shorter and shorter time between charges.
Recharage batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and batteries over 2 years old are considered nearly worn out. Worn out batteries won't charge up at all.
