My MP550 refuses to be recognized by ANY of my computers; when plugging it in (with the USB "connector" that came with it or with a USB connector and/or cable from other MP3 players), it does nothing but sit there and look pretty! I've got nowhere to copy my music to when I hook it up! My computers recognize my MP735 with all of the same connectors and/or cables - just fine! In addition, I cannot turn it off! Did I get a "lemon" this time? Thanks for any help you get give me!

Try disabling your antivirus before connecting the device. Most antivirus prevents driver installation from some external devices. If that doesn't work, enable your antivirus and run a full scan on all your drives. Your next option might be to return it for a refund or replacement

Testimonial: "Due to major frustration, I returned it; they didn't even question WHY I wanted a refund; evidently, it is the norm for this product! Thanks so much!!"

My Windows 7 cannot recognize my Sata/usb connector

USB hard drive is a portable external storage device that works just like a conventional hard drive. The device is simply plugged into a USB port on your computer as you would connect a flash drive. Unlike a flash drive, however, a USB hard drive can store a much larger amount of data. If your computer will not recognize your USB hard drive, you can try troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.

Plug one end of the USB cable into the port on your hard drive and plug the other end into the USB port of your computer. Ensure that both ends of the cable are connected securely. Open "My Computer" (Windows XP) or "Computer" (Windows Vista/7). The USB device should be listed as "removable disk" once it is plugged into the computer. If it is not listed among the available drives on your computer, proceed to the next step. Ensure that the data cable is working properly. Try another USB cable if you have one available. Disconnect all other USB devices from the computer as they may interfere with the operating system detecting the external hard drive. Reboot the computer if the USB hard drive is still not recognized. Plug the USB cable into another USB port and check to see if the device is detected. If you are using a USB hub, remove the device and plug the external hard drive directly into a USB port. If the computer still fails to recognize the device, the external hard drive itself may be experiencing a hardware problem. Check the status of the hard drive in the "Device Manager" window. Under Windows XP, right click "My Computer" and select "Device Manager." For Windows Vista and Windows 7, click the "Windows" button in the lower left corner of the screen, then type "Computer Management" in the search bar and press "Enter." Select "Device Manager" in the "Computer Management" window. In the Device Manager window, click the "+" sign that appears beside "Disk Drives." If the external drive is not listed, click "Other Devices" in the Device Manager window and see if an "Unknown Device" appears. The external hard drive may have been detected but the device is not working properly. If it is still under warranty, take the device to the computer store where it was purchased to have it repaired or replaced. Hope this helps.

How to Transfer Pictures From Your Camera to Your Computer

There are a multiple ways to transfer photos from your camera to a computer. The best is to remove the memory card from your camera and insert it either in the SD card slot on your computer if it has one or into a USB SD card reader attached to your computer. Your computer (Mac or PC) will recognize the SC card as if it were any add on USB device such as an external hard drive. Go into "Finder" if you have an Apple or "Explorer" if you have a PC and you will find the device. Open the device/folder. In most cases there will be one or two sub-folders. Open the folders and look for files with the extension ".jpg". Those are your pictures. You can now create a folder on your desktop or another location and copy and paste or cut and paste your photos into that file. This method is preferred by professional photographers.

The second method is to download the pictures directly from your camera using a USB cable. Although I am not familiar with your particular camera, there should be a small connector in which you can plug in the USB cable that should have come with your camera. Plug the other end into a USB port on your computer. The computer will recognize your camera as a device; just as it did in the first method. Again you can copy and paste your photos from your camera to your computer in the same way as I previously explained.

The third method is to use a transfer program. Most, but not all, cameras come with one or there are many for sale. Adobe has that function in there Bridge and Lightroom software although you may consider it pricy. With the software installed you can either connect your camera to the computer with a USB cable or use an SD slot or card reader. The software will automatically download and display your pictures.

Every time i plug in my sony camera to the usb port to upload my pictures, my camera will say " usb mode. connecting to mass storage" then that will go away after a few seconds and then it...

Hi,

The "USB mode" and "Connecting to Mass Storage" message will get displayed when the Camera is connected to the Computer and is recognized by the Computer as a Mass Storage device. This is not an error message and is a normal operation.
You can change the Mass Storage settings in the Camera (depends on the model) The USB Select or USB Connect option in the Camera can be changed to PTP, Mass Storage or PictBridge mode. Set the option in the Camera to PTP and connect it to the Computer and check if the Computer is recognizing the connection. Once the computer is recognized, it appear as a removable Drive.
You can transfer the images from the Camera to the Computer from the Removable Drive by copying and pasting.

If still same problem persists after tried in Linux, problem is with pen drive.
You can ask for a replacement from the dealer as it has guarantee for 5years.

I lost the USB connector to my Coby MP550 MP3 player a long time ago. Is there anywhere I can get a replacement?

Honestly I could not find one either maybe the reason being that is quite an inexpensive piece. I see them online for $15.99, you are better off just buying the same model brand new. If you were to find the actual cable I guarantee the cable is at least more than 50% of $16 ($8) so I would just go after a new one instead.

Usb port refuses to recognize plug in hardwares,

You can check from the Device Manager and see if you can enable it from there. Right click on your My Computer and choose Manage. On the left panel click on Device Manager. From your right, expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right click on each on the list and choose Enable.

Also so you can go and check on your BIOS settings and see if the USB port is enabled.

Goodluck and hope this helps.
