Kingston USB Device not recognized
Not sure if this is of any help.... but I had this exact issue and have just fixed it! (I have a 16gb Kingston USB stick). I had just built a system for someone and was testing the USB ports on the front of their tower and when I got home and plugged in my drive windows decided it was dead/broken! (it either gave a malfunction error or said the USB item was not recognised!) I was not happy!!! ... I then found myself here, not finding a real solution. And then. I plugged and unplugged the drive a few times until it did show up on the 'my computer' screen; windows still gave the message, inaccessible/malfunction etc... I tried to format but windows hung until I unplugged the drive. I had to plug/unplug it again a bunch of times to get my system to see it, and then! I right clicked and used the 'eject' option (thinking maybe it was stuck somehow from when I was testing the USB ports on the new build I had done). Lo and behold it ejected and when I plugged it back in all my data was there! (I'm guessing my guess was maybe in the right ball park, that where I was testing the USB ports I maybe glitched the USB drive boot up/discovery process, and by ejecting it reset it). All in all a simple thing. Any my pen works now!

Kingstan 2 GB pen drive
try to put it in another computer..if it is recognized, then the usb version of your laptop differs from the sticks version..if not...means that the memory stick is damaged..

Windows was unable to complete the format
u dont need to buy a new one. You can download file shredder from here . do following things :
- download and install file shredder
- shred all the files which are in pendrive(after shredding u will not be able to recover them)
- then try to format it .,
thankyou for using fixya
dont forget to rate the solution
have a nice day

My micro sd card when i plug say format but as i format it......
Well somehow data on your usb flash is write protected, maybe before you locked part of your usb pen drive and losted that encryptor software on your usb.
Solution is next, find any software for formatting usb flash memory sticks, force format it and there you go. Thats about it! =)

Usb data format
USB data-drives use the 'FAT32' file-formatting scheme, to be compatible with both Apple and PC computers.
Open "My Computer", and click with the SECOND (usually the RIGHT) mouse-button on the icon for the drive, and choose 'format'.
