If it is a new[ish] purchase send it back via the seller. It may be an issue with the particular model. Get onto Pentax Tech support Team- See what happens- if it is an issue then a replacement free or at moderate cost may be available. If the camera is older -there will be no economic repair option.

When I turn my camera on it says lens error and shuts off. no damage to camera and new batteries did not help.

Not really, it sounds like the lens has been bumped while it was extended. Unfortunately, the "buzz" you hear is the gears stripping one another. The only fix is to have the lens assembly replaced, which usually costs upwards of $200. I see this problem at least 3 times a week in my shop.

I have the same problem, which is not one but only a symptom : this problem occurs if the camera doesn't appreciate the batteries you feed it with ! use another brand, another model, or if rechargeable use another set of fully charged batteries...
I consider this problem coming from faulty design of the camera which consumes batteries very fast AND is very sensitive to the battery type you're using :-(

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
