I have an e280. I am running windows XP SP2. My computer does not recognize the inserted sd card at all. My computer correctly sees the e280's internal memory. Songs can be loaded and deleted with no problem. The only problem I'm having is that the micro sd card is not recognized. The sd card in question does show up correctly in the e280. When the info screen on the e280 is accessed, there it is. My computer seems to be the problem. However when I used this same sd card on a e240 Sansa, the sd card was recognized. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

What version of Windows XP are you running? Your best bet is to have Windows XP Service Pack 3.
The issue is that the tablet will appear in Windows as a "storage device". The problem is that Windows XP will likely require a driver to understand that your tablet is a memory storage device.
It appears you have two options:
1. upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 3, reboot the computer and then connect the tablet and see if the OS can recognize your device
2. remove the SD memory card from the tablet and, using a SD card reader on your PC (which you may need to purchase), insert the SD card into the card reader and use this method to transfer the files to the card. Return the card to your tablet.
It appears that Windows Vista, 7 and 8 will recognize your tablet automatically.
If your SP1 camera cannot recognize the micro SD card, please be sure you are using a card between 4GB to 32GB, class 10 speed. If possible, please try another micro SD card to be sure that the card that is not recognized is not defective. If you are using a card with correct specifications and it is not recognized, then the micro SD card port on your camera may be defective. Using your Samsung galaxy phone you can follow these simple instructions: 1. Attach your digital phone to your PC using a USB cable. 2.Check if your computer recognizes the phone as a memory device by clicking on "My Computer" on you PC. See if it has been assigned a drive letter. This will give you access to the memory on your micro SD card. 3.Drag and drop data to the memory card by clicking on the data and moving it to the drive letter assigned to your phone. You can also right-click on anything you want to save. Click on "Save As" and save the file to the drive. 4.Access the data on your memory card using the "Tools" menu on the phone.
Another option is that if you are using a microd sd card reader. You can follow these steps:
1.Purchase a micro SD card adapter, which will allow you to insert the smaller card into SD card readers and computers. Many of the newer phones come with the adapter.
2. Insert the micro SD card and adapter into the card reader. Make sure your computer recognizes by accessing "My Computer" on your PC and clicking on the drive letter associated with your card reader.
3.Drag and drop videos or other data to the drive containing the micro SD card. Or right-click on anything you want to save, and then click on "Save As." Save the file to the correct drive.
4.Pop the memory card into your digital phone. Access it using the "Tools" menu on the phone.

Turn your computer-speakers on.
Open your "My Computer" window.
Try each of the slots.
Try the SD card "face-up" and "face-down".
When you've done it correctly, Windows will play a "bong-BONG" sound through your speakers, to indicate that it has recognized the device. Also, the "My Computer" window will update.
From Microsoft support:
Some Secure Digital (SD) cards do not work correctly on Windows XP-based computers. Additionally, you may notice a yellow exclamation mark (!) next to the SD card in Device Manager.
This problem may occur even though you have applied other hotfixes that are required for high-capacity SD card support. For more information, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

There are 3 ways to solve your problem, but all of them are rather kludgy. This is an old player and the integration of the microSD card is not done very well. I believe with the newer players these sorts of issues are not problems. Anyway, here are your 3 possibilities:
1) You can load your music directly onto the card before you put it into the player. Most cards come with an adapter that lets them fit into slots that are for regular SD cards. So if your computer has a slot for an SD card (or if not, you can plug the card into a card reader and then plug the card reader into the USB port on your computer) then you can copy and paste mp3 files onto the card. This is a drag because you can't use Windows Media Player to do this, but instead need to open the folder where the MP3 files are and then copy and paste them onto the card. But it works
2) This is slightly easier. Before you connect the Sansa player to the computer go to the settings part of the main menu and then select mode. You should see two choices. One is MTP and this is the setting you want if you are using the player with Rhapsody service. The other setting is MSC and this lets your computer recognize the Sansa player AND the microSD card. Once you have selected the MSC mode, then you can connect the player to your computer. When you look at the drives on your computer, you'll see 2 new drives. One is the Sansa 280 and the other is the microSD card. Once you see those, you can copy and past MP3 files right onto the card (and/or onto the Sansa). Again, you have to go the folder where your MP3 files live and cannot use WMP to do this
3) I haven't tried this, but others say that a free program called rockbox (www.rockbox.org) let's all this work much better. It sounds complicated, as it puts kind of a new operating system on your Sansa and it may not be reversible, so proceed with caution, but some people love it.
Hope that helps
I think maybe better uninstalling driver, but leave card in and boot system and let windows find the card(hardware) first instead of wot sounds like windows looking for driver and freezing in the boot up process as it will look for a connection to internet for an update or driver.
Normally any usb periferals should be connected after driver installation, but any pci or agp cards inserted first, then driver.
Elegant, simple very logical solution. Thanks!!
