On Samsung microwaves the SE error code flashed on display means "Sensor Error". This means that your humidity sensor has shorted and needs to be replaced. You will need to uninstall the entire unit and remove the outer shell to access the sensor that needs to be replaced. It will be mounted somewhere around one of the vent on the cavity of the microwave. You may contact Sears for the replacement part at 1-800-252-1698; M-F 6:30 AM-10:30 PM - Sat 7:00 AM-9:30 PM - Sun 7:30 AM-9:30 PM - All times Central.

GOOD NEWS! I had the same problem this morning. Bought mine 16 months ago and woke up this morning to the SE code. Looked in the manual and online. Unplugging it didn't help...holding down the cancel button for 3 seconds didn't help. I called Sears and they said it was going to cost me the same $270 whether I called someone to replace the circuit board on my own, bought a new warranty or replaced the unit. I was so angry I just hung up on him and started shopping for a new NON-SAMSUNG microwave. I looked at the blogs one more time and noticed someone said to hold the start and pause button at the same time for 3 seconds. I don't have a pause button but held the start and cancel button down. It took about 20 seconds, but all of a sudden it started beeping. I let go and everything is fine! I'm angry and relieved at the same time. Why wouldn't this fix be in the manual and/or on Samsung's website?

Thank you!!!! I didn't find moisture but discovered that my panel was dislodged. I unplugged all the connections, realigned the panel and plugged everything back in...... it worked again!!!! Followed the following directions: I am a housewife that NEVER touches this stuff...but I fixed this one myself! Take off the top front vent (two screws on top) Then there is one screw above keypad panel. Take that off and CAREFULLY pulled back key pad panel. I then carefully unplugged all connections making sure I could get them back where they belong. I noticed some moisture and used condensed air to carefully blow it all out. Then I let it sit open over night to air out. Put it back together, plugged it in...and yippee it works like a champ now....hope this helps...atleast worth a try to start with.

I just took your advice - disasembled - no real sign of moisture - took circuit board off, lifted teh metal frame as much as I could (it wouldn't come all the way out easily and I didn't want to force it), then blew compressed air underneath. I didn't let it sit out overnight. Just put it all back together, plugged it in, and no -SE- code! We'll see how long it lasts, but, as you said, it was worth the try. The whole thing took less than 45 minutes. Thanks!
Thanks, Peggy, worked for me too. I removed all connections and slid out the keyboard panel with its printed circuit board, which I left out in the sun for a few hours to dry thoroughly. Reassembled, and problem solved.

This worked for me as well-- Thanks! Our problem first started when we boiled water underneath the right side of the microwave and steam got into the sensor. The popcorn button activated and the microwave turned on and then we got the S5 code. I removed everything like Patty said (which was easy- even for me), disconnected the panel and ran the blow dryer over everything. I put it all together and it works perfectly... (for now)

Thanks Patty n team, it worked for me too. I remove the circuit, unplugged all the cables from the circuit. I don't have blower at home, so I dryied and circuit keep it in A/C room and using the dry mode. As extra step I also placed the complete microwave in front of A/c . After two hours, I connected all the cables to circuitboard and it started working. It worked perfectly now. Also my wife gave me a good kiss for the brilliant work. All thanks to Petty n team...

I got lazy and just tried to use the hair dryer without disconnecting the power cables from the function box. Worked for like 5 minutes and the error came back. NOTE: you have to disconnect the cables, blow dry the function box. let it all sit for about 6 hours and then reconnect. Been 24 hours now microwave working fine!
Awesome fix advice! I followed bcoonstx advice, unplugged all on the back touch pad panel, air dried on "cool" setting with my hair dryer, plugged back in. All working great, as new! Thanks for your forum(s) and input! I was prepared to purchase a new micro, just canceled that order! Saved me $$$. :)
Awesome fix thank you,thank you thank you! I had popped two bags of popcorn back to back and I believe this is what caused the problem. I checked the manual and it says to wait at least 5min between pops to give the moisture time to evaporate. Who Knew!
THANK YOU!!! I just unscrewed and pulled out the key panel and let it sit for a couple hours open to the air. Plugged it back in and it was working. Without either any unplugging or any active drying.
EDIT: After only a couple hours of being open to the air, once I closed it up it stopped working again, but after being open overnight it's been working fine.

I just called Samsung and the tech support person I spoke with said mine (was purchased in 2010) was manufactured during a time when there was an issue with the circuit board, so they extended the warranty on the sensor board and are sending someone out for free to look at it. We will see!
When I encountered this error, it had been about 18 hours since I used the stove. I had two burners going, both generating some steam. So, it is very well possible that moisture IS creating this problem, as others have noted. I have had my microwave for about 2 years, and today was the first time for this issue. Instead of removing the front panel, I figured maybe the moisture had dried out by now. I unplugged the microwave for about 10 seconds and then plugged it back in. TADAH!! Back in business. So if you're patient, and can do w/o your microwave for a day or so, this might work for you. Otherwise, it looks like a manual drying method on the back of the electronics panel should work. Good luck!
I have no idea how my son worked this out but he pressed every key on the key pad in order left to right, each row, missing out the number keypad, then pressed reset/cancel and the error cleared itself. It worked perfectly for two weeks when the error occurred again. He followed the above procedure and again the microwave works.

That's the thing with many modern appliances, they often have too many sensors for their own good (same with new cars). The appliance can function fine but, yes, you'll need to replace your sensor to get rid of that "SE" error code which means Sensor Error. I know some great Waco appliance services that could help. Thanks to all who commented. I held down the start and stop buttons for about 25 seconds. Jumbled letters apppeared but when I let up it was all ready to go.

The full model number would be MMV1153AAB or MMV1153AAW and denotes color.
On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part,
so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly ("control panel/switch" as it's called) which comes
with a new keypad.
It's actually a pretty easy do it yourself job.
At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
Next, disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.
Some connectors have a lock:
Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your
circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of
disassembly.

I had the same problem, I changed the daylight savings time on mine and it worked untill summer, then it happend again. Finally mine quit working altogether. P.S. when this first happend samsung didn't even know what the error coded meant. It is an engineering code, meaning service engineer I believe. If it is beyond the year warranty your hosed, it would cost so much to try and fix your better off buying a new one.

Sumsung sucks. I bought Samsung microvave SMH9187ST just a little over 1 year ago and now it is dead with error code -SE- (or -5E- ?). Support technician on chat said that this can happen when you press 2 buttons simultaniously If this (pressing 2 buttons) can break expensive product, Samsung should be ashamed and shood stopp selling this product to public. Purchased samsung SMH8165ST in Oct 2009. have had the SE code problem for a few month now. Resetting worked at first. Then the light started flasing on & off along with the beeping...would not reset. Out of frustration I called Samsung. I was told they are aware of the problem & would repair in the "epidemic warranty". Repair man just left. It took him about 15 minutes to change out the keypad. No charge!!
Call Samsung if you have this issue. They are replacing my panel for free and it's out of warrenty.
I just contacted Samsung as well regarding the same service error SE I have an OTR micro which I purchased in 2010 model SMH9151W. They are going to replace my control panel at no charge as well due to this "epidemic warranty". Thank goodness cause I certainly dont have the money to replace my microwave at this time and I use it almost all of the time.
Can someone please tell me who to contact? I am having the same SE error I called Samsung and they told me I had to pay for the repair. Thanks!

I have the same Samsung microwave and have the SE error code (again). I took it apart. I unplugged the various wires from the board and used compressed air to dry out all of the connections. That worked for two weeks. Now I have the code again. The manufacture date is Oct of 2010. Do I have a chance of Samsung fixing this at no charge?
Did anyone have to pay for a control box instead of the key pad.
I have the same problem with my micro. manufacturing date 2010 but I bought it about 18 mos ago. Because of the time they say there is nothing they can do, I guess that is the life span of a SAMSUNG. There is something I can do and that is to recommend others to NOT buy SAMSUNG!
I had the SE Code. I cleaned all the wiring connections to no avail. I had to buy the $35 keypad/touchpad, which is like a plastic skin with the ribbon cable going to the circuit board behind it. My microwave is now working and happy. I was worried because if that did not work, the parts store said the circuit board is "no longer available."
I, too, have the exact same problem with my Samsung- I replaced the keyboard pad like most everyone else, but now the microwave doesn't come on at all- can anyone help me out with that? I rechecked all the connections, but am not sure about the second ribbon coming from the keypad- one fits into the socket on the ckt board, which is easy enough, but where does the second one go? From what I can tell, it just attaches to the plastic tab on the inside of the shell- is that correct?
My microwave is been on SE for months now how do I remove it???
