We have had this dishwasher for approximately 2 years. Dishes do not clean well. For example, I put a mixing bowl in that I just mixed brownie in--and the bowl did not come clean (simply a thick chocolate mix). Glasses do not come clean. They always have a fine residue on the outside (food). My husband just took the (blades) out that spin and dispense water and cleaned them. The water volume seems better now. Still, if I remember correctly, the dishwasher cost around $900. It definitely does not clean like a good dishwasher should. We use a good gel detergent and a rinse agent. Is it time to call a repairman, or do you have a suggestion first? Thank you--

Dishes not coming out clean

Hello

There are some things you can try, however, if your Maytag dishwasher is not getting your dishes as clean as you would like. Maytag recommends several processes for fixing this issue with your dishwasher.

Do not run your Maytag dishwasher while hot water is being used in other parts of your home, such as washing clothes or showering. Hot water is needed for your Maytag dishwasher to properly clean dishes.

Run water in the sink in your kitchen until it gets very hot. Then, turn on your Maytag dishwasher. This will ensure that the water cleaning your dishes is the hottest possible temperature.

Clean your Maytag dishwasher to improve the cleaning results for dishes. Run your dishwasher on a short wash cycle and wait for it to fill up with water. Stop the cycle and add about 1/3 of a cup of rust remover to the dishwasher and finish the cycle. Run your Maytag dishwasher through one normal cycle with regular detergent to finish the cleaning process.

Check your detergent. Old detergent or those that have been exposed to moisture can be clumpy. This detergent will not clean your dishes as well when loaded into your Maytag dishwasher. Purchase fresh detergent.

Use extra detergent when washing dishes that have a lot of built-up grease or food particles. The extra amount of detergent is needed to get your dishes clean. Choose a long cleaning cycle to clean these dishes.

Fill your Maytag dishwasher properly. Dishes should not be stacked on top of each other or excessively crammed into your dishwasher. This will keep the dishwasher from adequately cleaning all areas of your dishes and from rinsing them thoroughly.

I just got my mixer a few weeks ago for Christmas. I have made cookies twice. My problem is that the bottom of the bowl doesn't get scraped. The first time, I ended up putting more flour in the dough...

Put the flat beater on and mount the bowl to the machine. Now look for the screw next to where the beater mounts on the head- this is the adjusting screw. Turn it counterclockwise to lower the beater, just a quarter of a turn, and then check where it's running in the bowl. Repeat as necessary. If you need to raise the beater, just turn the screw the other way.

Our ten year old kitchenaid dishwasher doesn't get the dishes clean. there is food particles left on dishes if we don't completely rinse our dishes. is there a cleanout filter that needs to be emptied?

Locate your dishwasher's filter. It is typically on the floor of the dishwasher. Pull out the bottom rack and look along the bottom of the dishwasher until you find it.

Use a paper towel or sponge to remove any residue or debris that has accumulated on the outside of the filter once you locate it. On some dishwashers, the filter area does not detach or open, so your hand cleaning will stop here. On other models, you can unscrew the filter housing to access the inside and clean any debris from the filter area. Simply wash out the filter using soap and water, then reassemble once cleaning is complete.

Further clean the filter area by pouring a quart of white vinegar into the bottom of the empty dishwasher. Turn to a wash cycle and allow the dishwasher to run with the vinegar cleaning the mechanisms, including the filter.

To deep-clean your dishwasher and the filter periodically, mix the following ingredients together in a bowl, then pour into the bottom of the dishwasher: 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1 cup bleach. Let the mixture sit in the bottom of the empty dishwasher overnight. The next morning run a wash cycle, letting the bleach mixture clean and disinfect the dishwasher thoroughly.

Our dishwasher is approximately 13 years old. Today I turned it on and it did not clean the dishes. After trying to wash the dishes three times, the dishes on the bottom rack were clean but the top rack...

13 years old?!? LOL, you're lucky it turns on!!!

Pop the sprayers off and check for clogs. Otherwise, get a new one, this machine is way, way, way past its life expectancy.

Dirty dishes - junk dishwasher

1.) Put 1 cup of bleach in a bowl and set it on top of the spindles in the bottom-middle of your dishwasher.
2.) Place all glassware that needs to be cleaned, at least as much as you can fit, in the dishwasher like normal. PUT NO METAL IN DISHWASHER!
3.) Run it through the wash cycle, but do not let it go through the dry cycle.
4.) Take out the bowl that contained the bleach, and fill it now with 1 cup white vinegar.
5.) Set the bowl in the same spot and let your dishwasher run through an entire cycle.

Also use a little less detergent - it will help as well.

Food residue on all dishes

The filter systems on the Maytag line of dishwashers which includes Jenn Air is very fine. In most causes the pump needs to be torn down and washed in a sink and a shop vac is also a great tool I use to clean the rest of the pump out that will actually stay in the dishwasher. The spray arms also need to be cleaned in the sink. Check your drain line under your sink as well and make sure that the drain line coming from the dishwasher has a high arch or bend that is higher than the base of the sink. This will prevent sink water from backing up in the dishwasher which can be nasty. Also make sure to run your hot water to the sink before starting a cycle to assure hot fills and the water temp. is best if set at 130 degrees on your water heater instead of 120 or 125 degrees. I hope this is helpful. This kind of problem can be agrivating to solve at times. Scott (North Caolina)
