A simple solution would be to not select Heat Dry if you have that option on your machine. really don't know have you got the manual. Normally you have to test the water ph level and then adjust the dish washer to that ph level and then fill the salt reservoir. Not sure on your model of dish washer . However you could add a water softener to the water inlet to the dish washer . You have an intermittent contact somewhere that vibrations will every once in a while restore contact. I would clean and crimp every stinking electrical connection in the unit including the door switch. You do that, and I am sure the unit will be fine..

try washing without dishes with a cup of vinegar or get a product at the store call dish washer cleaner that you use it in and empty dish washer to clean and remove smell. also could be clogged strainer in the bottom of DW then need to be cleaned out!

Check the very bottom strainer in the dishwasher first. Clean it out and then (as long as the pump is good) the washer will drain.
