In Device manager, check there are no yellow exclamation marks next to the networking devices, this would show that the computer has a problem with the card
Remove the inspection hatch at the bottom of the laptop, check if the Black (main) and white (aux) leads are snapped onto the brass posts of the card..firmly.
Repost if no luck, It does sound like a failing card to me

Trying to find out what kind of fan is on my CPU, computer is a Istart C2389 by packard bell. Fan model is B7064NC made by AVC but cant find a replacement.

The manufacturer's site says the processor is a Pentium 4 socket 775. You don't need to look for the exact replacement part. Just order a socket 775 CPU cooler from any of the many online vendors and replace the one currently installed.

Sound drivers

You will need to download your drivers from packard bell, select your country and enter the laptop serial number printed on service tag, then select download drivers and download and run the audio driver.

No sound in win XP sp3

please check out in my computer systems device manager if anything in the sound section is in red or yellow remove it. unless win xp was made for your laptop the drivers are not there. you need to go to compaq web site and download your drivers.
