Hi, having major problrms with my sons laptop its a aspire 5536 and when you switch on you can hear it booting up but the screen stays black. tonight i switched it on and could just about make something out on the screen but its very very dark. tried to re boot again and its booting up hard drive but nothing on the screen. He needs it for college so we need a solution asap, many thanks

Press a button marked as Fn and press at same time button on functions keys (F1 to F12) representing a sun or likewise with an arrow or triangel pointing up.

Someone has turn down the background light on the computerscreen.

If thats not the case its problably the background lightsource stop function and you need a tech to look into it.

Sounds like the hibernation and hard drive setting need looking at under the power controls, also check that a password is not required in returning from hibernation.

try external monitor to laptop with screen disconnected ,if it works laptop ok screen has problem ,common problem blown fluro light or power to screen and power to fluro ok fluro has problem,check power to screen fluro nil then screen power supply problem or led check wire loom from case to screen power supply.

I have the acer aspire 5536-5112 black screen
I solve this using Fn + F6, using a 5536 model. Just press Fn + F6, keep holding it and hit the power button, wait for about 5 or 7 seconds, release the Fn and F6 keys. thank you so much guys!

I think your laptop fan is not working well. try a laptop coolpad having 3 fans or one large fan available in every computer shop. it may reduce the heat.

I got an acer aspire 5536 laptop with toshiba settings on it, it didnt come with a recovery disc. how do i get it back to its normal settings?
Generally there is something called a recovery partition which comes with most new laptops nowadays. You can check by repeatedly pressing F8 after the BIOS screen but BEFORE the windows boot screen comes up. In that menu that pops up you should find "Recover your system" or something like that. If you select that, you will boot into the recovery partition and start the recovery process.

I have an Acer Aspire 7720-6182 and when I open it, the screen stays totally black please help!
I had this last week on my Acer 5536. The only solution is to re-install the operating system from a saved disk - you lose all folders, alas, unles you can save them from the hard drive.

When turning the laptop on, it's not booting up. The screen is black and the green light stays solid, though I can hear the fan.
First thing you should try is:

reseat the memory chips (try booting just one single chip in one slot, if that doesn't work switch the module to the other slot)

Also I'd recommend booting without battery pack installed.

Let me know what happens or if anything changes with the above.
