Ge gas cooktop model jgp970bek2bb. unit in unlocked position, burners will light, but "lock" light remains on and buzzer/alarm sounds the whole time. how do we fix this?

The lock switch will need to be replaced. Lock switch, the switch has failed and causes the buzzer to run. Not a difficult repair but the top will need to be remover to fix this. This is not advisable to repair if your not knowledgeable with the installation part of this unit.

Take a q-tip and clean under where it clicks. Might have food or grease covering release hole.

Here is a tip that I wrote to give details about why your cooktop will not spark to light the burners..

Cooktop Range Stove spark ignition does not work

Turn off the gas,unplug the power.
Take the cooktop out of the cutout and support it on the countertop.
Remove all grates and valve knobs.
Remove all screws from the valves and the burners.
Remove the burner base plates.
You may have screw on the side holding the top to the base,if so,remove these too.
The top will separate from the bottom exposing your parts.

The igniter module is working fine. One of the switches (which are on each valve shaft) is stuck or shorted out. Pull a wire off each one at a time to determine which one is bad. Careful! 120 volts to each wire. Also, this can happen after you spill water into the valve area, if that sounds right, let it dry out.

all burner igniters work at the same time - you may have a faulty electronic spark unit. change the spark unit. go to repair clinic dot come for the unit. also would be wise to check the ingniter start switch on the gas burner control knob

Probably a spillage or boil over has clogged the burner and some of the liquid has dampened the shank switch mounted on the burner post. Get a shop vac and clean the burner. Wait a day or 2 and see if the switch stops. OR disable the ticky ticky by removing the bottom drawer and looking for the spark module. Remove one of the hot wires and tape it up. Light the burners like granny does with a match. LOL

Sounds like igniter problem. Did some one pull the electrical cord or has a fuse or breaker blown/ Things to check. Your igniter is run by electricity.

Sounds like you need to replace the burner control (part # WB23K5053)

Are the other 2 burners lighting with the spark? If so the other 2 are either shorting before the burners or the sparkers are faulty.

To service, the cooktop needs to be completely removed from the bench and disconnected from the gas as the access is from the bottom.

I could step you through it while watching, but to do it this way is not a good idea. It's probably worth ringing a serviceman.
