Re: MAYTAG PREFORMA 2 SPEED 10 CYCLES 2004 TOP LOADER
Check your lid switch, some machines stay running when you add clothes when it agitates, but will shut off if you lift the lid in rinse and spin, lid switch may be broken.

this sounds ilke its in a delicate cycle or fabric care cycle...did you try putting this in normal or regular wash are the speed selectors set to fast/fast...let me know if this does not help...
Sorry but you only have the one speed on this particular brand. Perm and short are just less time. The best thing to do is always use large water setting and less delicates in the load on a short cycle to compensate for the speed and protect your delicate fabrics.
Your timer is bad on that cycle. It is okay to use on regular cycle, but I would not use it on the delicate cycle, or will you burn up your timer. You should be home when using this, so if it does act up you can catch it.
it may be waiting for a faulty heater to kick in. try it on a cold water wash, no heat and see if it continues the full wash. if it does not then it may have a faulty timer.
it sounds like your water inlet valve is bad, change it,also try your washer on another water level like small load or med load and see if it cuts off,it might also be your water level switch, hope this helps,thanks-mike
Sounds like you may have a problem with the motor. These motors have two speeds, and the lower speed maybe going bad. If you are handy, the motor is really pretty easy to replace, but the motor itself is a touch costly (Maytag Number 21001950), usually around $150.00 (but you can sometimes find them on ebay for less). If you want to replace it yourself and need further help getting to it, let me know, really quite easy. Jim
