The Olympus Stylus 300 camera works with xD-Picture cards, including the 2GB Type M+ card. But it's important to make sure the camera can use that particular type and size of xD card by checking the camera's specifications and list of compatible devices.
In playback mode press >ok< select >mode menu< with the 4-arrow-pad, then select >card< then >card setup< then press the PLAY button below the arrow pad. Select >all erase< with the up/down buttons of the 4-arrow-pad and then press OK (the button beside the PLAY button). Confirm by selecting >yes< with the up/down button and press OK button again. It's also a good habit to get into, to format the card after deleting the images (you can also just format the card - that will also delete all photos). To format the card start as above (Mode menu; card; card setup; press PLAY). Select >format< with up/down buttons then press OK. Select >yes< and press OK.

I;ve been on the internet all morning researching the same problem. It appears it's a curcuit related problem with the flash. As of know, haven't got a solution other then buying another camera or taking paictures in manuel mode without flash.
Are you talking about the sliding door that powers on the camera and covers the lens? There is a metal plate with two screws on the bottom of the sliding door that holds the door to the camera, try tightening the screws and see if that helps. Or else see if the door is slightly bent out of shape, and try to bend it back if you can. This is a common problem on the Stylus-300 camera, you can buy a replacement door from eBay -
In order to take closed-up pictures you need to use Macro mode. It is possible to zoom through all ranges from telephoto to wide down to a minimum distance of 8 inches.
