The lid should lift off as with any toilet.; it is not secured. The button actuator is not connected within the toile; it triggers a flush by making a connection when pushed. Make sure that you ability to lift the lid up and off has not been blocked wall, counters or other fixtures. be careful that paint, drywall compound, or silicone sealant is not preventing removal. The lid should lift easily.
There are some dual flush cisterns where you have to depress one button to reveal a cavity in the second button. Put a screwdriver in that cavity to left out the second button, then release the first button and pry that out.
Underneath the buttons is a screw which must be unscrewed to release the cistern lid.
