This is a common question on this site. Amps of all types have protection circuits to keep them from doing a self meltdown. Testing follows this logic. 1. Remove all speaker wires. 2. Keep the volume down - all the way. 3. Turn the unit on. 4. If it does not trip off, then there is a problem either in a speaker or the wiring. a. Reconnect one at a time until/unless it trips off b. That will tell you where to look further.
If it does trip off, then there is an internal circuit issue in the amp and probably requires professional help to fix.

My sony SA-wx700 sub woofer does not have a sound

Check out this link to a thread. I bought a Sony SAWX-700. The light came on when plugged in. The guy said he didn't have a way to test it, but assured be the light was on and that it worked. I got home and it didn't. Did a search and found these posts. I followed them, ordred the parts and fixed it for like $10.00.Hope this helps! I also did a Youtube search on how to solder and desolder and wasn't that hard. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=944798

Sony SA WX 700 - Fuse (6.3 A 125V) keeps burning out

The switching power supply transistors have shorted out. Other parts may be gone also. A difficult fix. Too bad, it's a great sub.

Please check +12 volts at Q809 emitter pin and -12 volts at Q810 emitter pin on power board. Also check collector voltages on both transistors and let me know to move further.
