I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop that won't boot. When i perform a BIOS diagnostic on it it comes up with error code 2000-0146. "Hard Drive 0 - self test log contains previous error(s)". I have tried removing the hard drive & then replacing it with no success. Any ideas??

The HDD is bad.
end story.
new hdd and new os, cured.
oldest story in pC there is, besides bad batteries, more.
the real dell site, not fixya, has 1000s of users
with bad hdd,
many fail at 5 years, laptops
desktops at 10 , or much longer running real enterpize HDD.
or get SSD

best is a new SSD, they last longer and are 10x faster.

The problem is either the Hard drive has failed and needs replacement or the hard drive is operational but it lost the OS. (Operating System). If the OS is gone, you need to re-install it again..

SOURCE: Erroe Code 0146 (Dell Inspiron E1505) MSD Unit 0

Hi ! Error code is this error code 2000 - 0146??? if that is the error message you have to contact dell technical support to replace the hard drive because that error code mean that the hard drive is already faulty. You can Reinstall the Hard drive as well but it is not guarantee that it will fix the issue. Most of the time dell will send a hard drive replacement for that kind of message if the system is still in warranty it will be free but if not you have to pay for the replacement. Hope this will help you . God Bless!

SOURCE: Hi, I bought DELL INSPIRON

ok, the good news, the bad news, and the ugly.
Good news: buy a replacement hard drive and you should be good to go. Bad news: data recovery on a failed drive is a crapshoot at best- there are ways to try and recover, but they are stopgap (and cheap) or mostly reliable (and freaking EXPENSIVE)
Ugly: buy an external cage to install the hard drive, use a boot cd of Linux ( I've had better luck pulling files from NTFS drives using Linux than another install of Windows. Go figure....) and put the hard drive in a freezer bag- **** ALL AIR OUT OF THE BAG!. Put drive in freezer for 48 hours.
Pray. Pray hard. Pray harder still. Put drive in external cage, attach to linux system. Pull as much info as you can. Hopefully you can snag your important files- but that error is a pretty gnarly drive error.

Dell Inspiron 1545 red processor:Pentium(R) Dual-core CPU T4400 @2.20GHz is error code 2000-0221, how to solve this problem?

this is a bios level error, you should still be able to run the system. this code is something you get when you hit F12 and run the diagnostics? or is this a blue screen error? you are probably going to need to boot to F2 (setup) then hit "Alt e" Alt F then Alt B the system will beep on the alt f but that's ok once this is done hit esc, save changes and reboot and see if you still get the error

Dell inspiron 1545 laptop wont boot. Error unable to locate hard disk drive

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Hi
It seems that the Hard Disk is disconnected from it's connectors
It needs to be fixed and installed correctly.
To do that, there are screws in the back, remove them and disconnect the hard disk, and reconnect, fix it correctly.
If it's difficult to you, go to technician to do that.

Please, Tell us your results.

My dell inspiron 1545 laptop's not turning on...can't here the fan nor anything...the power light turns on and that's all...No image nothing...helpppppppppppp!!!

Try plugging in the brick - perhaps a dead battery?
IF the system was dropped & has a damaged motherboard, you'll have to transplant the
PCMCIA HDD (hard disk drive) to a new (functional) PC (using anti-static techniques) to
get any data off the hard drive.
Try to boot at least to ROM BIOS - then run any/all diagnostics your ROM BIOS has - memory,
motherboard, system bus, etc.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. The computer kept freezing and with the diagnostics test I received error code on hard drive 0F00:075D

Your hard drive is defective or the circuit (system-board) that controls it. It's cheaper to replace the hard drive then the system-board to see if that's the problem. If it's under warranty Dell will replace either parts.
