Mitsubishi WD-52631 HD TV lamp problems

I have had to replace the lamp twice since July of last year. Is this an indicator of bigger problems with the TV?

I had to replace lamp after 5 months, lamp replacement was covered under warranty. Lasted 1 year, replaced lamp only (not housing) from dealer on EBay for $99 + shipping. Lasted 2 months, I assume the lamp is the problem, no picture, yellow flashing light. I have sound because it goes thru Home Theatre. Before installing home theatre, had no picture, no sound when bulb needed replacement.

This is expensive maintenance that makes me sorry I bought this TV. They say lamp should last 1-2 years, not inconsistent lamp life I've experienced 2 mos., 5 mos & 1 year. What a racket! I'll never recommend this product.

The dust was the problem for my WD52631. If you vacuum off the vents on the back of the TV regularly the bulbs will last a lot longer.

Yes we have the same problem with our Mitsubishi WD-52631 lamp and the over heating yellow light too. We didn't think of checking with ebay for a replacement lamp, so thank you to the person who shared that. I just wish we had know these problems before we bought this piece of garbage. We thought Mitsubishi was a good company but we will never recomend them to anyone. The should recall all of them if they were an honorable company, I guess that is wishful thinking.

I have found that if you vacuum around the vents where you put in the lamp on a regular basis that the dust does not build up to cause the problems. My current lamp is now 9 months old with no problems.

So far I have had no good luck with Mitsubishi. I have had them send me two bulbs and had the tv repaired in the two years I have owned it. My last tv lasted 14 years with NO issue and didn't cost me $1400!! I have been told there is an air flow problem and power supply problems which both lead to low lamp life. I think that if Mitsubishi wants to avoid a class action lawsuit they need to start giving away free lamps for this model. Also, this is not localized to just the 52" tvs. My wifes ex has the 62" and it has the same issues.

I have had my 52631 for 3.5+ years and I am on my second lamp and 1st fan. I put a small fan that runs 24 hours per day behind the TV and replaced the original bulb on 6/20/08 and it is still working. This TV runs at least 6 to 8 hours a day average sometimes 12 to 15 hours on weekends.

Hi, have you replaced the lamp after 2-3 yrs of usage? The lamps used by mitsubishi tend to last around 4000 hrs 1-3 yrs.It is common for the green light to light up.Other common failures are the ballast which is the board that powers the lamp. Also check if its not overheatin, dust out the fans.Heres where u can get the lamp or ballast http://www.discount-merchant.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=wd-52631

My tv keeps shutting down when I turn on. The message on the the TV screen said that "the TV will be shutting down in a few minutes". I resit the lamp in the back of the TV and the TV works after I reset...

The first would be excessive dust causing inadequate airflow through the lamp cage. Cleaning the filter may resolve the problem.

It could also be that one, or both, of the temperature sensors could be defective. This is a known problem to the extent that Mitsubishi extended the warranty an extra two years on your model and similar models with the same design.

Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc (MDEA) 2006 DLP® Projection Televisions Models: WD-52631, WD-57731, WD-65731, WD-Y57, WD-Y65, WD-57732, WD- 65732, WD-57831, WD-65831.
As part of our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, MDEA is announcing an extension of the warranty coverage to replace the thermal sensor for the above referenced models. For a period of two additional years beyond the one year limited warranty, MDEA will cover the cost of the thermal sensor (parts and labor) at no charge. All other terms of the MDEA limited warranty will continue to apply.

Probably a bad lamp. This is the first thing I would try....especially if the lamp has not been re[placed in awhile.

No video. Sound OK

I felt it would be best to re-post on this to give some closure. Most people post their problems and after the fix has been applied, people who are in the same boat never hear if a fix worked or not. It ended up just being the lamp bulb. I purchased a replacement bulb on eBay, did the removal of the bad bulb and install of the new one via the aid of a video provided by the reseller. It took about 10 minutes over all to fix and I'm happy to say that my TV is working just fine.
