System worked great for 4 yrs. Now I turn it on and it gives me "protect" message and turns off. I have checked all speaker wires, checked air flow around unit, etc. Any other ideas?

I have the same problem. Had it for about 1 year, then it started doing this problem a week ago. I did smell an electrical burn one night, but could not figure out where it came from. I thought maybe it was the TV, because the smell was coming from that area. I'm thinking maybe something Zapped out in the audio system. It was after this burn smell that I noticed the problem with the theater system. Is this thing fixable or is it fried?

When I switch on my Samsung HT-X40, it shows 'protection' in display and shut itself off after.

I was moving around my large woofer speaker last night and then all of a sudden the unit went into protection mode. I tried all the various solutions posted on here and nothing worked. Then I went back to my speaker connections on the woofer and unplugged them and plugged them in again and it seems to be ok now. Very annoying problem. Can I suggest unplugging all the speaker cables and replugging them back in. Also another solution may have been holding down the power button when powering up the unit. Give all the above a try.

What's your problem?my toshiba dvd player has protection on and can't get it off

The protection circuit is sensing a load problem, a malfunctioning laser assembly or a failure in the audio/video processing circuitry, far cheaper to replace the DVD player.

We have a 2 year old Polaroid TDX-03211C television. Teh DVD player does not work. I can hear the DVD spinning around, but the video player does not recognize that there is one in. Is there an easy fix? Is...

It could be as easy as cleaning the laser. If you are a smoker, chances are that the smoke got inside the unit and is causing an issue. Wont read disc. Need to take DVD player out of tv set and clean laser. If that doesn't do it, make sure u are playing the correct type of DVD'S. Some types wont play in tv, expecially if they were burned from a computer. Usually DVD-R'S play fine and DVD+R'S won't play on some dvd players. Give that a try and let me know how things turn out.. I have a samsung DVD Home Theater System HT-WX70. My son put a cd copy in the DVD player and PROTECTION flashed on the player and it turned off. I turned the player back on and took the cd out. ...

If it is, the protection message usually meant either a speaker had blown, or more commonly a wire to a speaker had come disconnected or broken/shorted.

Try unplugging the speakers one at a time, and if you have a set of speakers of the same rating to try, try plugging them in as you remove the originals (obviously doesn't need to be done in the setup positions in the room, just have them beside the player to check it works.)

This might then identify which speaker or cable is the problem one for you to replace or repair.

If this is the speaker overload/short mesaage as I think it is and the above doesn't cure it, it would appear the amplifier board has a short somewhere and that's an electronics engineer job time
Hope it helps!
