The problem is likely to be a jammed disk. All you need to to do is remove the cover by removing the 7 screws locking it on. The jammed disk will most likely be located where the dvd is read, this can be tricky to remove so carefully remove a screw at a time from the disk positioner (device with white disk on it, not 5 disk tray) gently trying to remove the disk after each screw is removed. The fewer screws removed the better. Usually only the screw on the right side needs to be removed to give rome to remove the disk.
My DVP-NC600 CD/DVD player will

Hi, do a hard reset. Unplug from power, wait 10 seconds, plug back in and power up. That should clear the error message unless there is another disc in there somewhere.

Hi,
Optical block used in this player seems defective and its dvd reading section is not working.
Optical block has two sections, one reads cd and other reads dvd data and your Sony DVP-NC600 does not read dvd disc but reads cd data because this section is still working.
Optical block will be replaced to fix the issue.
Let me know if you need part number of optical block for this player.
Thanks.
Sony 5 disc dvd player - discs lock in - spinner needs push to go
You can spray WD-40 contact cleaner but very little amount in spindle motor (you call it spinner) and please take care, DO NOT spray over optical lens which is so close to spindle motor.
If problem still exist, you need to replace optical lens assembly and I will provide you part number if required.
Good Luck.
Sony 5 changer dvd player won't work. displayed code 31
Hi:
This may be caused by one or two causes. The laser pickup assembly is bad or the most common failure for DVD and CD players is the spindle motor. This motors bushings fails over time and does not spin the disc at the right speed so the unit times out. You can repair the by purchasing what sony calles the Mech Assembly it comes with new laser and stepper motor as well as the Spindle motor.

Not reading disk
Hi,
I had a similar problem with my Yamaha DVD player which just kept displaying "reading, reading and reading"- eject-no disc or disc error. I took it into be repaired and was told it needed a new optical lense-cost $120.00 plus fitting.I was told not viable to fix. Not convinced I had a look on the internet and a suggestion given was to buy a can of Air Spray from **** Smith,$14.00 later and blowing the proverbial out of the inside of the unit-Bingo it works for about an hour and then, away we go again-reading reading reading - eject-no disc. Back to the internet and i found a DVD technician who advised the more often than not the problem is a dirty optical lense, and he has saved 100's from the grave by the following method. The most effective way to clean it is with a cotton wool bud soaked in Isopropyl Alcohol and give it a good rub without damaging it. I got the Isopropyl alcohol for $12.00 a 250 ml bottle from the local chemist and did what was suggested. IT WORKED and is still going- not sure for how long but the bonus is I can use the remainder for rubbing down my tired old body, as after shave or a refresher, in addition to fixing DVD's so not all is lost. It's worth a try considering I was going to throw the Yamaha away. Thanks to the internet and the good people who share their knowledge I am happy again.
Hopefully it will work for you. If not, don't forget the other uses for the alcohol.
Sony DVP-NC600 Multi-disc DVD Player No Disc Error
The only other thing I can suggest, having repaired many Sony CD/DVD players, is to get a can of compressed air and try to blow any dust out from the laser assembly. Since you've already cleaned the lens (the most common problem), you also might have dust down inside the assembly. Try blowing with the air nozzle down inside, around the gap between the lens and the cover surrounding it. Do it from at least a couple of inches away, if the air is too powerful you can damage the wiring inside the assembly.
If this fails to correct the problem, your laser output may have diminished over time and the only repair is to install a new laser assembly. The cost of this part will most likely not be worth it to you since the unit is quite old now.
