Trouble changing passwordon model 940CB wireless keyless entry

When attempting to change the password, instructions tell me to enter current password and press and hold # key. Opener light should blink 4 times. Light doesn't blink, but door opens. If I let door close completely, I am unable to open the door using the keyless pad. I am unable to change the password. Can you help?

Mine is model 940CB. I already have the instructions--they simply don't work.

I have the printed instructions. They simply don't work. Yes, I did try setting up a temporary pin first and that too doesn't work.

I took a ladder went up and pushed the learn button once. The light comes on steady, then go to the remote and put in the 4 digit code you want and press enter. That's it, it worked.

In Canada Chaimberlain has a really helpful telephone line with an IVR that does get you to the fix quickly. And it did solve my issue with the remote. My problem was the previous owner of the house did not leave the code. The basic steps were.
1. Make sure the battery is good.
2. On the motor unit of the actual garage door opener press the learn button, mine was under a white plastic bulb cover that I had to remove.
3.While the learn button LED remains on for 30 seconds, on your keyless remote type in your four didget code that you want and then hold down the enter button for 5 seconds.
4. The light on the motor unit then started to flash confirming it had learned the code from the keyless remote.
5. Try the keyless remote by pressing your four didget code, then pressing enter. Your door should work.

To the guest's question. normally on liftmaster products you need to hold the 'learn' button on the back of the operator for 8-10 secs (till the led goes out). Then have all your remotes and keypad handy and reprogram them all. Push the button on the back of the unit then one of the remotes (1-2 sec) light will flash. Then repeat for the keypad press button and go enter your 4 digit code and hold enter 1-2 sec.

Hi Syls

Click HERE to view the online manual.

Is the buttons flashing the required two times once you've held in the # key ?

Try setting up a temporary pin first and then changing it back to a normal one again.

Let me know once you've tried it please.

  • Anonymous May 20, 2008

    Hi Syls

I think that the keypad is faulty and will most probably need replacement because it is not even flashing the same number of times when you enter the new pin either standard or temp. mode.

  • Anonymous May 20, 2008

    Hi Syls

Have you tried switching off the power for 12 hours and then retrying the procedures yet ? This should do a hard reset wich might just do the trick.

The power should in other words be shut off completely.

I have a craftsman garage door opener, of which I tried to program a new remote. but it did not program. in the event I accidently errased my keypad password. How can I reprogram the keypad, i cannot...

Hello there,
It actually depends on what you are trying to program. And these instructions apply only to openers that do not have dip switches on them.
Remotes: push don't hold the colored learn code button all models have different colors. After pushing the button hold the remote behind your back and push it three times. On the third time the door should run.
Keyless Entry: Program the code you want into the keyless. Push the colored learn code button and then enter the code and push enter three times slowly. on the third time the door should run.
Home-Link. Hold the two outer buttons until the blinking pattern changes. Then hold the button you wish to program and point and click your remote at it. Push the colored learn code button and push the homelink button three times.
There are two models of the Wireless Keyless Entry System, the 740CB and the 940CB. The 940CB is for use only with Security+® garage door openers having an orange/red smart/learn button. The 740CB will work with all openers manufactured since 1990 that have a yellow, white, gray, or green smart/learn button. It will not work with Security+® openers.
To program the keyless entry, first locate the smart/learn button. On our chain drive models, this button is on the end farthest from the door. On our belt and screw drive models, it is on the right side as you face the door from the opener. You simply press and release the smart/learn button. You now have 30 seconds to enter your four digit PIN number into the keypad and hold the enter button for five seconds. Wait one minute and test the keyless entry by entering your four-digit PIN number and pressing enter.
With some Security+® models, you can also program your Model 940CB Wireless Keyless Entry without climbing a ladder, right from your Multi-Function Control Panel. Simply enter your pre-selected code and press and hold the enter button on your Keyless Entry. Then press and hold the light button and the pushbutton on your Multi-Function Control Panel. The garage door opener lights will flash to confirm that the Keyless Entry has been successfully programmed.
Hope this helped you solve the problem. All the best my dear friend. Elect_Comp

Model 940CB/67LMTrouble free for 10-12 years. Now with a new battery after code + enter it will flash about 60 times very fast will not open the door. The door opener works fine with the button on the wall...

You can try programming it but I have a feeling it is bad.

Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to your keypad and key in your 4 digit code and press enter.

If this doesn't work you will need a new keypad.

To program the keypad, first unplug the garage door opener from the electrical outlet. Next, remove the nameplate from the console that the keypad plugs into and locate the program/operate switch. Flip the switch to program. Next, enter your desired four-digit PIN number into the keypad. Slide the switch back to operate, and plug the garage door opener back in. The keypad should be programmed. The Chamberlain wireless keyless entry model 940CD doesn't work. I changed the 9 volt battery, but it doesn't light up or do anything when I enter the password. It's like it's totally dead. I've had it for...

make sure it is the right keyless entry. For starters, Make sure your antenna hanging off the operator is "purple" color. If it is grey, you have the wrong keyless entry. The keyless you have is for the 315 frequency. If your antenna from the operator is grey, you need to get another keyless entry based on the frequency.

I need my keyless entry code changed or can i unhook it due to code was stolen and dont want vehicle damaged by who has it

your owner manual tells you how to personalize your own code. you enter the permanent code first, then add your code by folowing owner manual instructions.

Usually, it's enter permanent code, hit 1, enter your digit code, enter 1.
But some vehciles are different
