The needle thread is blocked by a clamp/lever adjacent to the bobbin case. The needle thread breaks before one stitch is complete. Singer Model 771 Touch and Sew Please help. Thank you.

    Your response spurred me on to do more searching on the web. My machine is 30 years old. (Singer Model 771) The bobbin rests in the bobbin case parallel to the floor.



    I did a search for "Singer 771 position bracket" and found a diagram at:

    Apparently an "eccentric stud set screw" needed adjusting!

Possibly lever is to keep bobbin in place? If so, should slide left/right over top of bobbin.

not picking up the bobbin thread is an indication of needle / hook timing
thread tension problems appear as a mess of stitches under the cloth
the timing can be checked by having the needle full down and the hook of the bobbin case should be at the needle just above the eye of the needle
if it is too early or late then it is not in position to get the thread

Singer facilita 9858-1 top thread is winding around the bobbin case. It seems to get caught under the bobbin case retaining plate, around the left side of the case,& under the rim of the position
make sure the bobbin is counter clockwise

make sure top thread has not come off thread take up lever

could also be a timing problem

What to do when the thread keeps breaking
The top thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle
8. Try a different spool or cone of thread
Bobbin thread breaks
1. There is a right way & wrong way to insert the bobbin in the case --when you insert the bobbin in if it doesn't stitch correctly turn the bobbin over see if that helps or bobbin case is not inserted correctly
2. Lint has collected in the bobbin holder
3. The bobbin is damaged & doesn't turn smoothly
4. Lower thread tension is two tight

My sewing machine singer 7256 giving me a problem causing my fabric underside stitches bird nesting and suddenly the bobbin case comes out from its place and thread strangles and stuck, Why?
try changing the needle-- Correct needle insertion is mandatory for proper use of your sewing machine.
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the needle clamp screw to remove the old needle.
Place the new needle in the needle clamp with the flat side of the needle facing the back, (round needle, the groove in the needle should face away from the shaft).
Push the needle all the way up as far as it will go. Then tighten the needle clamp screw.
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
also check the top thread tension

don't wind the bobbin so full that it would be tight & hard to insert into bobbin case

thread catching on the bobbin spring or latch on bobbin case check to see that the bobbin is inserted completely & correctly & that you are using the right kind of bobbin .

Stitch
Mine is doing the same thing. It's pulling the thread up from the bobbin and making a huge knot. Any suggestions. I've done all the above checks. Brand new needle, tension is on embroidery, threaded properly and no lint in bobbin compartment.

Needle jams and breaks off
Needle jams....Thread is caught in the hook...solution...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case,turn the handwheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands.

Needles breaks
1. Needles is damaged..Insert new needle
2. The needle is not correctly inserted....insert flat side towards the back
3. Wrong needle size for the fabric...Choose a needle to suit the thread and fabric.
