My canon SX110 IS camera has recently started displaying 'battery is low' and flashing the red low battery sign even a few minutes after putting in brand new batteries. I have tried with several new sets...

I had the same problem with new batteries reporting as "low" and instant shut-off. After I found that it would stay on when plugged into USB, I suspected a firmware bug in the camera (I am a computer engineer). So I thought "how can I fool it?" I then found that it would stay on if you power it up with the rotary dial BETWEEN the video and manual ("M") setting -- in the "illegal" position. The after it's on, every mode works!

New batteries but displaying low battery and camera shuts off

I was using batteries made for a camera.
Suggested getting just energizer batteries and now the camera works.

Battery low indicator comes on even after new battery installed

I also have this problem. I put freshly recharged batteries in the DX3900 and the camera starts to turn on and reads the memory card (the green LED blinks) and then I notice that the in CAPTURE mode the lens does not extend out of the body housing. The top display shows a flashing low battery warning and after approx. 15 seconds, the camera shuts off with no function.

I have determined that the camera appears to have changed its low battery sense level as I have verified that the batteries are indeed fully charged by using a volt meter. If I have the camera in a warm environment, and do not have the LCD display on (removes a major power drain) the camera can be made to work for a short while. If I select the LCD to turn on, the extra drain seems to cause the camera's battery monitor to think that the battery voltage is too low and the camera shut down. I have yet to resolve this issue.

Battery Problem

Hello,
The batteries u r using for your camera are of very low rating or low ampere output, you should use atleast 2100mAhr rating batteries and you will be very much satisfied with the performance.

New Batterys and camera indicates batterys low then shuts off.

Did the batteries come with the camera? If not, they might not be a high enough mah rating. Some batteries, even though brand new, may not be strong enough to power a camera.

Camera will not stay on.....

the 3 beeping sound means that the camera has low battery capacity. the lens is stuck out because there is incorrect battery connection. there is an option on the camera setting for the battery type. try this one:
-turn the camera on
-click on Menu button
-select options using left/right, up/down button
-select Set up 2
-Select Battery type
-Select Alkaline for non-rechargable
or Ni-MH for rechargable
-click OK button

this setting should be done when using camera for the first time and whenever you are switching battery types, from rechargable to non-rechargable and vice versa.

Displays "low battery" always

I had exactly this problem and found the solution - I was using the wrong type of batteries.

You might be doing the same so what you need to do is check to see what mAh the batteries you're using. I was using Energizer rechargables with 1300mAh when the camera stopped working and switched to 2500mAh rechargables (on the advice of a friend) as a last desperate attempt to get it to work and it solved my problem. I got 2500mAh Energizer rechargables and would advise the same but you should go for batteries with at least 2100mAh.

I hope this helps some people :)

Battery display low indication and switch off even new batteries placed

Dear Camera User, I am by no means a professional when it comes to these matters. However, I do have the same camera as you, and currently have the same problem. Other users with the same camera have also apparently had the same problem as us. I have not gotten a chance to try this yet, but I read that if you keep the camera on the video feature for a while, and maybe even try recording some video, the camera will finally power up properly and not have to shut down all the time. According to the user who suggested this, his camera worked ever since that incident. So it is very possible that this may be the solution, or at least, one of them. Good luck to you...and to me (I have yet to try it).
