Elder parents have a 1 1/2 yr old HP Pavillion Series 4600. They are getting a black screen that reads "Disc Boot Failure Code HP-BIOHD2. Can you help me?

    Do you mean the hard drive or the hard disk that "should've" come with the computer?

That means that the BIOS of the motherboard can't detect the hard disk = it has died. Replace the hard disk and reinstall.

    Hard drive is the older name of the hard disk and yes, it has died and must be replaced. You are probably referring to the recovery disk that must be obtained from HP to be used to reinstall Windows.

Need to reboot my computer.

goto your computer company's website for e.g. if you have a hp pavillion goto hp.com downloads and support and look for recovery discs. youll have two options you can either download it from the website and make a copy or you can have one delivered. once you have the disc iinsert and restart. youll see a black screen reading press any key to boot from cd. press a key and follow the steps.

"Disc Boot Failure" upon powering up the compaq

your harddisk is not detected.
open your cpu case.
then reattch the power code and datacode to hard disk.

Hp 6000 notebook screen goes black..... blue control lights go on and off

if i'm reading this correctly, it sounds like it could be a motherboard/video issue. If that's the case then unfortunately you are probably going to need a new computer if it's out of warranty...

for now however, try shutting down the computer and removing all power (power cord, battery) for a few minutes, then plug it back in and try to boot.

Hp pavillion trying to boot from dos mode

This is a common HP laptop problem.
Please try these steps, if they dont work you will have to do a restore.
