You are using stereo headset, but it is a mono output. So you need either mono headset or an adapter that will allow the mono sound to go to stereo output for a stereo headset.

Had to go into audio-click on stereo--which was off-maybe we do this on every dvd -as it did,nt stay on -when we shut off the dvd -it went back to off again-
FM stereo will need a good aerial to work properly, but AM doesn't. If you have not got a good aerial, stereo will stay off. Though you might still here the station. It needs a lot of signal to make the stereo light activate. If was to come on in the weak state the sound would be full of interference. So the set keeps it switched off.
