Could I possibly use my D-link 802.11 wireless router as an adapter (or switch/hub) with another wireless router to increase my bandwidth since I have mutiple components using the other wireless router?

SOURCE: In my new router getting less speed in wireless connection than when connected with a cable.

The 54 mbps refers to the stream rate from the router to the wireless reciever, the 100-110 kbps you refer to is the connection speed to the internet. These are two different things, if you were transfering files from one pc to another it would transfer at a max speed of 54 mbps. If you connect via a cable it would be 100 mbps. Your internet speed depends on your isp server your downloads will be less than 256kbps, with even less upload speed.

You would normally set it up as an access point. But bridge would work too.

SOURCE: can't connect to internet with router and wireless usb adapter

Hi,,
Did you check whether the USG adapter can work in "G" mode, read the manual of the usb adapter and check whether it can operate in "G" mode since your router is a wirelss "G" model the devices which detectes signals should also work in :g" mode, And most of the inbuilt adaters are viable with a/b/g/N type routers, so please check the manual and let me know
Thanks,
Vipin Menon

How do i adjust bandwidth on E3000

There are several possible answers to your question, depending on what you're referring to as bandwidth.
On the Linksys E3000 router, you can increase your total bandwidth by utilizing both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands for your wireless N networks, and split your wireless connections between the two. This can be done with the Wi-Fi Protected Setup option, or manually through Wireless > Basic Wireless Settings. Note that each network should have it's own SSID and password.
You can adjust the bandwidth priority of certain applications and devices. You can set priorities from High, Medium, Normal, or Low, to control your network traffic. Setting a program to have high priority lets it use more bandwidth; setting a low priority keeps the program from using too much. To adjust these priorities, go to Applications & Gaming > QoS.
You can adjust the maximum outgoing bandwidth that your applications use as well. By default, the router will decide how much to allow your applications (Auto setting). You can change this to your liking by selecting Manual and specifying an amount in either Kbps or Mbps. This is also on the Applications & Gaming > QoS page.

I have had a LinkSys WAP54G wireless router for 1 month The signal strength has always indicated very low. Is there anything I should /could do to improve this. Interestingly the other wireless...

HI, If its a Internet link which u are speaking about, Please connect the LAN to the System with LAN wire and check the speed. the Problem will be due to low connectivity issue. Wireless router will not increase the bandwidth, it can able to provide the same or below the bandwidth which it received from the ISP.

How does a router and a splitter looks like and how as well they differ?

A router is a more sophisticated network device than either a switch or a hub. Like hubs and switches, network routers are typically small, box-like pieces of equipment that multiple computers can connect to. Each features a number of "ports" the front or back that provide the connection points for these computers, a connection for electric power, and a number of LED lights to display device status. While routers, hubs and switches all share similiar physical appearance, routers differ substantially in their inner workings.

Splitter is nothing but a Switch.
Switches may operate at one or more OSI layers, including physical, data link, network, or transport (i.e., end-to-end). A device that operates simultaneously at more than one of these layers is known as a multilayer switch.
In switches intended for commercial use, built-in or modular interfaces make it possible to connect different types of networks, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, ATM, ITU-T G.hn and 802.11. This connectivity can be at any of the layers mentioned. While Layer 2 functionality is adequate for bandwidth-shifting within one technology, interconnecting technologies such as Ethernet and token ring are easier at Layer 3.
Interconnection of different Layer 3 networks is done by routers. If there are any features that characterize "Layer-3 switches" as opposed to general-purpose routers, it tends to be that they are optimized, in larger switches, for high-density Ethernet connectivity.

I have a laptop running 802,11 g/b and vista and I Cant connect to linksys wag160n wireless router(802,11 n). laptop sometimes recognises network but when I try to connect it wont. could you help ?

Hi, You cannot connect across wireless protocols. In other words to connect to 802.11 n you need an "n" adapter.

Now, the router should be backward compatible & provide wireless g/b but you may find that when you search for networks it will be listed as a seperate network name (from the same router)

Try searching for this other network. Your router documentation should advise you of its default name & any set up process

Question For Experts ONLY

Hi,

It's true that using router and adapter of the same brand will give you maximum performance. And YES, you can confuse both router and adapter. No matter whats brand, you can boost your adapter performance by changing its link speed or duplex to 100M/Full Duplex. This will gives you maximum performance then Auto Function of the Duplex.
Logically its NOT True but Practically I have done it many time.

How to link two D-Link adsl routers with the same IP at a switch

You can go into one router and specifically assign it a different gateway address. I would rather have one router with one hub behind it and pay for one dsl line and max out the bandwidth from your isp. Hope this helps

Toshiba Satellite ethernet port disappeared...

I think you have answered your own problem, your wireless has possibly been zapped.
To test your ethernet adapter on your laptop connect it to a network hub, check the hub and see if you have a link light on the hub and or laptop..
To test your wireless router, connect it to a known working computer with a network card and check the router configuration, using the browser, if you cannot access it then its zapped.

Routers

You cannot increase your bandwidth, if that is your question.. but you can increase the signal strength and/or your radius of access (distance from the Access Point) by adding what we call 'Extenders'.

Bandwidth is determined by the type of Wireless Specs you are running.. G is the fastest 'certified' bandwidth at this time. although the new "N' will be available soon.. (it is in stores now, but not considered a 'standard' yet... The release date is not due until 2009..

Here is a good guide to the various speeds:

Install D- Link adapter

It's not generally possible to connect two computers directly via a network adapter.  You need a hub or router in between the two computers (you would connect a cable from each computer to the hub or router, and that equipment facilitates the connection between the two computers).  Alternatively, you would need a "crossover cable" to connect the two computers directly without a hub or router.
