SOURCE: Rule H53sp-24 pool cover pump trips GFI breaker

GFI devices are prone to degrade over time. Also, when used outdoors there are additional moisture issues that may cause sufficient current leakage to trip the breaker.

I had a similar problem this Spring. I was using a 20 amp GFI "master" outlet that protected two additional outlets 'downstream' of it (wired to the 'load' terminals on the GFI outlet- I'd have the check the doc. to see what terminology was used here). The pump was plugged into one of the downstream outlets.

Replacing the GFI seemed to solve the problem. I did ante up $20 for an 'outdoor' model of the 20 amp GFI unit, several bucks more than the standard 'indoor' unit - have no ideal if that represented additional value or not.

Note also, that this is the third such pump I have used for my pool cover. The other two failed to come on at all after about a year's use. The mfg replaced them under warranty (I may have had to send back the old pump - I forget!).

SOURCE: rule 1800 pool cover pump trips breaker

It sounds like the pump motor has shorted. Probably time to invest in another one.

SOURCE: dynamo pump is locked--just hums

Try turning the motor from the back. Remove the end cover and turn the shaft. If it still hums the motor will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: motor feels bound and hard to turn...

If there is a capacitor on it, you could replace that. If there is no capacitor the starting switch is probably broken. If you are not used to working with electricity, either have someone qualified work on it or...BE CAREFUL!..God luck...Lee

So how come your pool pump keeps tripping breaker in the first place? It may be because of four reasons: Your circuit breaker is short circuiting from the water or corrosion collected by the pool pump. Debris from the rain goes into the housing, making the motor overwork.

Replaced pool pump motor but breaker keeps tripping

Breakers are mechanical parts and can fail. If none of your components are causing the breaker to trip it's the breaker itself.

Model 4001-ov trips the circuit breaker.

Assuming you have Paragon 4001 40 amp 120Volt timer
By-pass the timer so only pool pump is connected to breaker.
To do this, move wire from terminal 2 and connect to terminal 1.
If breaker no longer trips, then replace timer with Intermatic T101
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T101
Crossover wiring: Paragon terminal 1 goes to Intermatic terminal 1.
Paragon terminal 2 to Intermatic terminal 2.
Paragon terminal 3 to Intermatic terminal A
If breaker keeps tripping after bypassing timer, then tighten wires on circuit breaker and test again.
If breaker keeps tripping, then move wires to another same-size breaker.

Breakers trip when they sense overheating.
If motor is causing problem, you might need electrician to track down source of overheating.

1 1/2 HP Pentair Pinnacle Pump keeps tripping the breaker. What would the problem be and how can I fix it?

The motor and/or electrical system is damaged and need to be repaired. With the breaker off, disconnect the motor and insulate the wire ends. Turn the breaker back on and it should remain closed without tripping. If so, it is ok and you can turn it off and leave it so until the motor is fixed or replaced.

Find a local electric motor repair shop and have them inspect the motor. It will likely have to be replaced but taking it to them insures it is not repairable and also makes sure the new one will fit correctly. A new motor and seal would likely run ~$150 or so.

I am trying to install a SuperFlo 1 1/2 HP 115V pump The GFI breaker trips as soon as I try to turn it on.

pumps should not be connected to GFCI circuits they do pull a lot of juice at start time and this causes your GFCI to trip
