Pentair dynamo 340210 was running

you have probably hit a dead spot on the motor - try turning the motor by hand and then turn it on - maybe it will kick it.
dangerous to do it while the power is on but some people have had luck doing the same thing while the power is turned on.

Poor water circulation, not enough pressure to move polaris around adequaately

Check the basket at the skimmer and the one on the pump and make sure they are clear. If you have a pressure gauge on your filter does it read higher or lower than normal? If it is higher that would indicate a dirty filter and needs to be taken apart and cleaned or backwashed. If it reads lower than normal the problem may be a clogged impeller, where debris has gotten past the pump basket.

Pump is making a buzzing/humming noise but is working

I suspect corrosion in the bearings, which means probably in the motor as well. If it runs nonetheless I'd just keep using it until it stops as once it gets to that stage it isn't economical to repair. .

Jiffy toggle switch

yes, cut the wire about 18" - 24" from the plug end, then install a regular wall light switch in an outdoor style weather proof single toggle switch gang box. Available all day at your local DIY Center. I have done this with portable pumps that I take with me on the job site at times. I do something a little different by taking one extra step for safety reasons. I use a "Double" gang box instead of a Single and install a GFCI outlet next to the switch where the GFCI is wired first and the switch is wired in after the GFCI so it is protected from any possible shock. and the pump will be protected as well. Good Luck

Does this pump Dynamo DYN

Pumps don't need to be backwashed, some filters do. Sand and DE filters need to be backwashed when the filter pressure has increased to 10 or 11 psi. depending on the manufacturers recommendation. The cartridge filter cannot be backwashed but instead it is removed and a hose sprayer is used to clean out the dirty outside. Your pump does need to be primed so it is not trying to pump mostly air. Each time the pump basket area is low in water then it needs to be primed. You will know how low it can go before it needs to be priming by turning it on when it is low and if it cannot start pumping water at full rate then at that level of water it needs to priming. If it is pumping water at full flow and you turn it off it should not need re-priming because there is enough water in it to force the air through the system. I hope this helps.
