It sounds like the laptop is fine and the problem is with the router. You may need to "reset" the router by pressing the very small pin hole button for a few seconds. Be Aware that any special settings you have entered in the router will be reset when you do this...it should take it back to original settings.

If resetting it a few times does not make a difference you may have a bad router. I would try it with another computer to be sure, but strange behavior after a few resets points to a bad router.

I Forgot password for wifi and I need to get it back

Wire in a cable with the router from ur laptop/desktop. Check the default gateway of the connection. Then put the ip address in the explorer window and try to log in to the router with the username and password. If you remember the credentials then login and under security settings or wireless security you will see the password. But if u forget the credentials then u have to reset the router and reconfigure the wifi router again with a new password.

New download of windows 7 won't retain or create internet connectins

Ok, this is conflicting... won't retain or create!! Doesn't it have to be created to retain it?

Did it connect before you downloaded windows 7? Exactly what happens when you try to get on the internet? Do you have the wireless switch on the laptop turned on? Do you see your wireless router? If so did you put the password in correctly? If not, it will never connect.

Sir i lost my wireless network name and my wireless network password

to get back you wireless information, first you have to connect you laptop hard wired to the router using the ethernet cable, then open a browser and access the firmware of the router, usually for dlink routers, the default gateway to access the router is(10.0.0.1),but if you don't know the default gateway, you can go to the network connection by typing (ncpa.cpl) in the run box or the start search from the start menu. look for "LAN or Highspeed Internet or Local Area connection" then right click on it and select status. Note:make sure that the laptop is propperly connected via network cable.
you will have the "status" page.

for winXP: click on support tab and look for the "default gateway"

for win vista and win7: click on "details" button and look for "ipv4 default gateway"

The "default gateway" number including "dot" needs to be typed in the address bar of your browser.
The router then will ask you to enter the username and password, which is located in the back on side of the router. After you got to the router page, on the left pannel, click on "wireless settings" there you will see you wireless information.

Windows xp on Gateway MT6723 laptop

Are you trying to install Windows XP on your laptop that has a SATA drive in the laptop?
And during the Windows XP install it cannot find a hard drive?
The reason why Windows install does not work is because Windows XP does not have a SATA driver support and therefore cannot find the hard disk.
THE FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM.
Go into your BIOS and turn off Native SATA support or set it to IDE controller (this setting depends on the type of BIOS). Save the setting and reboot and you will be able to install Windows XP.
