Sony HDR-XR200 lens cover problem

I have the Sony HDR-XR200 camcorder. When I open the view finder, the camera is suppose to automatically turn on and the lens cover opens. The lens cover opens and shuts multiple times and them stays only partway open. An error message comes on telling me the cover is not open all the way and to turn it on and off again. Sony wants me to pay for the service on this fix eventhough the camera is less than a year old. Only 6 months and used only a handfull of times. What can I do to fix the lens cover short of taping the thing open?

You have two options, replace the motor that opens and closes the lens cover or remove the lens cover shutters all together, and use a 30mm lens cap.

hi,
did you took off the battery during the time you didn't use the cam, or was it mounted on it ?
if it was mounted on it, it is most certainly dammaged and doesn't keep enought charge. did you try with the charging cable plugged?

Lens Cover not fully open

It sounds like a problem with the firmware in the camcorder itself. As an authorized Sony repair person, I have gotten no technical bulletin on this model. The firmware is preloaded into the microprocessor IC. You will need to have this unit looked at by an authorized Sony repair center who specializes in camcorder repairs or send the unit to a Sony factory service center. good Luck

No picture shows up on the screen nor in the view finder when I turn on my Sony camcorder model hdr sr11.thank you.

If the issue persists even after performing allthe above-mentioned steps, service is required.

Well this sound like the shutter may be trapped, either by a knock or heat on the system, maybe you could take it to camera shop and let them see.

The LCD and view finder both stay black when lens cover is open. It will still record sound but no picture

Had the same problem. It's ainternal flex wire connecting LCD with camcorder. Got from the repair shop did it by miself and it's like knew. It's very common in sony. Good luck

When I turn my camera on and try to record, nothing shows up on the screen.

Make sure lens cover is open, if still camcorder does not show live view then it is bad ccd imager chip problem that will be replaced.
Let me know exact model of your Sony camcorder to provide you part number info of ccd imager chip.

Since Sony will not sell parts you have 2 choices here, replace the camera or send it in to Sony for repair.

dear kwilsey,
just turn on your camera and look at the front side of camera.i.e just note tat your lens shutter is opened. if lens shutter is opened then prob is with your ccd devices. Contact the nearest authorised service centers.

Lens cover not open and blank screen

the problem of your camera is the ccd image sensor...better go to the sony service center for replacing the image sensor..i know it is free for replacing that sensor cause that is one of the model that sony recall produc and the cover not open error message is a poor contact of the lens cover switch...
