SOURCE: turn on cold wash and no water will run.

It sounds like your cold water celenoid is going out. You have to replace the whole water valve. it should be around 30 bucks. your local parts store should have it in stock, Just take your model # with you.

SOURCE: Kenmore HE3t Hot water valve opens even when COLD/COLD selected

It appears your timer/controller board has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Water will run in machine even when the machine is turned off

A water valve within the washer must be leaking. A test to see which one, close a water supply, either cold or hot and see which leaks. A band-aid solution could be to only connect hot (or cold) water to the one that doesn't leak, select appropriate water temp, hot-hot or cold cold.

The machine will only fill with hot water. I have switched the feed lines and even turned off the cold water and gotten the same result. Is this a bad solenoid?

Your COLD inlet valve is faulty. By swapping the hoses you have cold water coming in via the hot inlet valve. However, most machines will only rinse with cold water, but your machine thinks the water is hot. So...it won't rinse! Replace the cold valve or change the wires from the cold to the hot valve...Some electronic machines can be damaged by doing this. Non electronic machines could be ok...Good luck....Nomess

I have replaced my electric water heater and I have checked everything I can think of and I still run out of hot water in 3 minutes. What on earth is the problem.

3 minutes?? does the water run cold then? or just warm?
Is this what the tank you replaced was doing? If so, then you may have: 1 a recirculating pump instant hot water system thats faulty and allowing cold water backflow into hot water piping. 2 A tempering valve that has stuck, allowing cold water into your hot water system.
Or maybe a broken or missing dip tube in your new heater.
If after 3 minutes the water is coming cold out leave that faucet running and go to heater and feel the hot water outlet pipe from the heater. if that pipe is hot then the heater is not the problem. If the hot pipe from the heater is cold the heater is the problem. (Make sure the cold pipe coming into the heater is connected to the Right side marked "cold" !) If there is a tempering valve by the heater: feel the output from the tempering valve, if it is cold and the pipe from the heater to the tempering valve is hot, then the tempering valve is the problem. If all these are OK somewhere in your plumbing system hot and cold may be connected possibly a faucet or showerhead that is shut off at the spout/head, but hot/cold handles are left turned on then cold water can backflow thru hot pipe.

Washer was working fine! Moved washer to new house, and now it will run but only with hot water. put washer on Auto controll, and cold cold or warm cold setting, and it wont even turn on.

Have you tried checking your cold water supply faucet? Are you sure there is cold water running out of that faucet before you hooked up the hose? Is it possible there is a shut off on the supply valve that isn't turned on? Therefore it will not run on cold water setting? This actually happened to me once. We went away for a week and turned the water off for the hot and cold supplys. Came back to do laundry and only turned the hot one on and not the cold. Good luck!

When washer fills up it only fill with hot water. the cold water do not even run in machine. Then when it goes to the rinse cycle water is not filling up in machine. It comes out just alittle bit. is there...

The cold water solenoid valve or the controller is defective. It is more likely that the valve is defective. Of course, check to make sure that the cold water feed is turned on.

No warm or hot water

The easiest possibility is no hot water coming from supply,I have seen the valve turned off, input hose normaly has a filter where it attatches to the machine and they can get clogged. If neither of these solves problem just try hot valve to confirm water supply does work and if so more than likely the valve that hoses are connected to likely source of problem.
