My 3 year old daughter discovered that you can slide playing cards down the glass front of a Quasar SP3232 (32 inch TV) and under the plastic housing in which the picture tube sits. She managed to stuff several packs of playing cards into the TV. We're worried that it might now be a fire hazard. I can't find service manuals anywhere for free (some places will charge $15, but I don't know how trustworthy they are). Do you know if I can safely unscrew the back of the TV to remove the cards? (e.g. will it still work if I disassemble and re-assemble it?)
Hi there!
You can certainly do this yourself. However take care not to break the tube neck when doing so and unplug from mains before you start. All TV'S can be opened by unscrewing the screws around the edge of the frame first. Then on the back panel you should find more screws that holds the AV sockets panel onto the cover. Once all screws had been removed, carefully pull the cover backwards making sure that you don't drop it before the tube neck is completely clear from the cover. Remove the playing cards and reassemble the same way, making sure that all sides are firmly slotted before replacing the screws again. You are correct in quoting "Fire Hazard". It is indeed.
