Removing playing cards from inside of a TV

My 3 year old daughter discovered that you can slide playing cards down the glass front of a Quasar SP3232 (32 inch TV) and under the plastic housing in which the picture tube sits. She managed to stuff several packs of playing cards into the TV. We're worried that it might now be a fire hazard. I can't find service manuals anywhere for free (some places will charge $15, but I don't know how trustworthy they are). Do you know if I can safely unscrew the back of the TV to remove the cards? (e.g. will it still work if I disassemble and re-assemble it?)

Hi there!

You can certainly do this yourself. However take care not to break the tube neck when doing so and unplug from mains before you start. All TV'S can be opened by unscrewing the screws around the edge of the frame first. Then on the back panel you should find more screws that holds the AV sockets panel onto the cover. Once all screws had been removed, carefully pull the cover backwards making sure that you don't drop it before the tube neck is completely clear from the cover. Remove the playing cards and reassemble the same way, making sure that all sides are firmly slotted before replacing the screws again. You are correct in quoting "Fire Hazard". It is indeed. Regards and good luck, JUS004

How do I install a new front door RH window? My parents front passenger side window was damaged. I can obtain one however, I need to install it and remove the broken glass that has fallen inside of the...

you will have to remove all the trim from inside of the door, remove the weather seal from behind the trim as well
if it has electric windows you will have to remove the winder as a unit from inside the door
remove any broken glass from inside the door, turn the replacement glass with the narrow end down and slide it down through the top opening where the window glass normally goes in the door
once it is inside the door turn it around so it is in its normal position and place it in the channels where the glass runs, connect the electric winder mechanism and replace everything in reverse order as you removed it
hope this helps

I need to replace the glass cooktop on my Maytag electric stove

  1. Open oven door and remove two screws that secure top.
  2. Lift up front and slide forward about 8 inches so that you can disconnect two wire couplings.
  3. Place on table upside down(I put newspaper down to catch the broken shards of glass) and remove burner unit (1piece, 4 screws).
  4. Place old burners on new stovetop in the same position as original.
  5. Remove 4 white plastic shims (round) from old stovetop and put on new stovetop.
  6. Tighten all screws and then sit it back on stove (two front tabs fit into slots) and then insert screws into holes and tighten.
  7. Took about 20 minutes, including vacuuming broken glass from inside burners and cleaning grease form crevices between burners and old stovetop.
  8. Wrap old stovetop in the newspapers that are underneath it and place it all in a plastic garbage bag to avoid any broken glass from falling out.

Games don't read when inserted

It is very easy bend the pins on the inside of the card slot in the DS. Depending on your daughters age's they may be the cause. Have a look into the slots with a small torch to see if any are out of line. If they are there is your problem.

On a similar point I had one recently at our shop and it had come in twice before with the same problem of not reading the games. We asked the women who was bringing it in to show us how the games were being put in to discover it was her 7 year old son and it wasn't putting the games in that was the problem, it was him pulling them out instead of pressing the game down to release it.

It would be very rare to have the exact same problem with 3 DS's in a row with the exception of the problem being caused by the user.

20 year old Quasar colour TV (no remote)

That is because the switches of the front panel buttons are stuck or defective.

Try first unplugging power for ten minutes, this probably wont work.

To fix this the TV must be taken apart from an expert, and front panel replaced.

You can enquiry here for parts.

What you can do at home, is getting a replacement remote and using TV with a remote, or buying a freeview box, and watching and changing channels through the box.

You can get a replacement remote here: Replacement Remote Control orReplacement Remotes

My suggestion, if it is supported in your area, get a set top box with 30 channels : Freeview - digital TV from Argos.

Cable connection

some older tv's only go up to so many channels.you may not even need a remote to set up cable tv. if you are going to use a cable box on this tv, put the tv on channel 3.if not, look in front of the tv for a little door. behind it maybe knobs or buttons that can program the channels 1 at a time [+= add - = erase. there also maybe a switch for different cable types [hrc, std, etc]
hope this helps
