You can view/save the user manual from this link. (It takes a while to open fully) Chapter 10 covers troubleshooting. Do you get any type of error message when the light is flashing? If not, it may be a paper jam. Check to see that the paper is properly loaded and that there is no paper stuck anywhere in the paper path. Refer to the manual for better guidance on where to look and how to clear it.

Hope this helps!

Mp830 fax problem

Got an answer from Canon NZ:

1. Press the red Stop/Reset button and keep it pressed.
2. The 'Alarm' light will flash - count 12 flashes.
3. The screen on the Canon will show 'SERVICE MODE' and something #1.
4. Press the right arrow key twice to bring up FAX TYPE #3.
5. Press OK to check the country - mine showed Australia when it should have been New Zealand. Scrolling with the arrow keys shows the countries available for your machine.

Alarm setting

The alarm sounds for only 5 seconds. When you receive a fax and the paper jams, the fax will be received into memory. When it has finished receiving the fax, the alarm will sound momentarily. When you remove the jammed paper, the fax will print automatically.
