My HP Compaq Presario V4000 does not boot!

My HP Compaq Presario V4000 does not boot, and keeps restarting. What do i do? I have a lot of important data!

I'm taking a guess that there is a flashing blue screen right before it restarts. If so then try running the check disc utility.

If that doesn't resovle it then take out any devices you have plugged into the machine and try again.

If that doesn't work then back up your data and reformat.
The way you can do this is boot in safe mode like the above comment. If you can't do that then you can get either a SATA or PATA to USB connector and remove your hard drive and transfer the files.

Any more details would be appreciated.

Can you boot up in safe mode? hit F8 while booting up, if you can then back up all DATA and try using system restore function to go back to the day before you have this problem.

BOOT FROM NTFS BOOTABLE DISK.. TAKE BACKUP FROM C DRIVE. THEN RESTORE UR XP WITH RESTORE OPTION.. OTHERWISE FORMAT C DRIVE.

You may need to reload. Be sure to back up your data first. If the machine won't boot, and you have important files on it, you could purchase a USB Hard Drive Adaptor, pull out the hard drive, and copy any important files to another machine. Good luck.

Its not compatible. It has different screw listings then V4000.
If you could provide me the product No. which is at the bottom sticker of the notebook of your Compaq v4000 laptop then I can find the part no. for LCD screen which is less costlier and exchangeable.

I want to restore my laptop to factory settings. I have a compaq, presario v4000 but it did not come with a system restore cd.
baby,
There is an option to make system restore disk for your Lap.
Goto Start->Program -> HP Recovery -> Create System recovery.
WARRNING: its one time runnign software. So use good quality DVD to make your recovery DVD and keep it safe.
It might take 2-3 DVD so be patient as it will take time.
  • After creating DVD, make copy of all your important documents/file to any where like flash memory/CD or DVD as all the files and softwares will be deleted which you have installed/copied or saved after first boot.
  • Then re-start your lap with the created first recovery DVD.
  • Follow the on screen instructions...

There is also a way to run your recovery from your HDD.
  • Keep pressing F9 after booting your lap till Boot Selection menu appears. Select Recovery and follow the on screen instructions. But before recovery make all backups of your important data.
