I have notebook Compaq 6715b with Windows XP (no SP2). Sound doesnt work. drivers from HP official site not working

this is the link you need from hp and you will see 2 different audio driver sets download both and try one and if that doesn't work try the other.

First try from the Compaq Site or HP site www.compaq.com or www.hp.com . If you are unable to find the Drivers then download Driver Max software from www.drivermax.com , This software will automatically detects all the hardware present in your computer and gives links to the drivers suited for your hardware.

beware ...I believe that with this solution internal mic will not work ...but ..is about all that is ..cause on the official site they do not provide an audio solution for xp....

I suppose you are running Windows XP. This notebook is not officially designed to work on Windows XP, however there are some unofficial drivers available for windows XP, you may try downloading the sound drivers from:
http://sites.google.com/site/sriksang/software/drivers

I'd recommend to install all the drivers from this page. After installing the above drivers the headphone problem would be solved.
