The washing machine won't start if "cold water" only is selected. It will only work when "warm water" or "hot water" is selected (and even then there is only hot water filling the machine, the cold water won't come in). I have checked all of the cold water lines and there are no clogs, leaks, etc. Then it stops half way through the wash cycle right before the rinse cycle because it won't let any cold water in for the rinse cycle. We then have to turn the knob to spin cycle in order to drain the washing machine.

Check the cold water solenoid. If a meter is not available you can swap the hot and cold wires and see if the symptom changes to hot water when cold is selected. If so the mixing valve needs replaced. If no then further testing of the wire harness and timer circuit are needed.

When water is on mains the hot water doesn't work only the cold working

If you have hot or warm wash selected and you get no hot water, a possible cause is that the solenoid inlet valve on the hot connection has failed. Try connecting the hot tap to the cold inlet on the back of the machine, and selecting cold wash. If you then get hot water coming in you will know it is almost certainly the solenoid inlet valve on the hot connection.

No Full Hot Water wash

the hot selection only tells the machine to turn on the house hot water to the machine
if you have it on warm , then both taps will be working
if you want a really hot water wash , there will be an element in the tub to bring it to temp
naturally an energy saver will not waste money heating hot water

No warm or hot water

The easiest possibility is no hot water coming from supply,I have seen the valve turned off, input hose normaly has a filter where it attatches to the machine and they can get clogged. If neither of these solves problem just try hot valve to confirm water supply does work and if so more than likely the valve that hoses are connected to likely source of problem.

Hot water goes into cold water washes

It is normal for the machine to cycle between hot and cold water when filling even if selecting a cold cycle. The reason for this is because even a cold cycle requires the water temperature to be 78F for the soap to break up efficiently.

During the cold months the water in your pipes is probably less than 78F so the machine will need to add some hot water to bring it up to this temperature. Basically, it is adding cold and then hot water to maintain a temperature in the tub of 78F for cold water cycles.

Hope this helps, please rate my solution.

Water temperature

It sounds like your water inlet valve (also known as a Mixing Valve on some washers) HOT solenoid is sticking open. When you select either a hot or cold wash cycle, separate solenoids open or close to allow only cold water to enter the washer on the cold wash cycles and hot water to enter on the hot cycles. If the hot solenoid stays open, you will have hot water mixing with your cold water during the cold cycles. The result is warm water. I would recommend you replace the water inlet valve. This is a job the average DIYer can do. Please post back with your model number and I can assist you with locating a part number and/or give you specifics on how to access the valve to replace it.
