To solve the register problem.... Put each phone for 20 seconds or so in the main base. I had the same issue, and resolved it this way.

The solution for the base (not the handset) is to press and hold for 2 seconds the "Skip" button (it's marked with ">>").

The Do Not Disturb button is on the base not the phone.

I called ge, they said to hold skip for two seconds and it would change back to english. it did, so there ya go. :)
