Same problem and think this unit is a piece of JUNK. In 5 years of service i have had to replace the Water shut off Valve twice, and the heater located on the bottom of the freezer which helps to keep the freezer defrosted. The fan has a whistling sound constantly, within 2 days of putting something in the freezer it is full of ice. Sorry pal, but as I said this model is a piece of junk.

Most ge have a Multispeed fan control on board. But if you had to start the fan with your hand, I would guess it would be a fan issue

GE Side by Side Refrigerator no longer cooling.

If not cooling or signs of not defrosting we will need to check the compressor start components, fan mortors and motherboard. Let me know and I can guide you through this. Sea Breeze

Psc25mstass freezer not cooling

I had a problem where the temperatures in both refrig and freezer wouls fluctuate. Would not geep ice cream frrozen in top of freezer but temp gauge would read 0. Even stranger would have stalagtites forming from the top shelves in the freeser (big ones). Still under extended warantee so tech replaced the mother board and iit is functioning well now.

GE refridgerator fan speed changes constantly

I will try to answer your question . Your refrigerator had 3 thermistors in the refrig side , and 2 in the freezer side . These thermistors , send resistance messages to the main control board , mounted on the back of the refrigerator . If say #1 thermistor tell the board , I need to be colder , then the board will tell the damper ( small vent in the top of refrig section ) , to open . If the #2 thermistor tells the board , I need to be colder , then the board tells the fan to speed up , to get more air to the refrigerator section . #3 thermistor , works with the turbo cool switch , turning the fan to a high speed also . If the thermistors tell the board , we're all fine , then the fan will slow down , but still circulate to make/keep the freezer colder . If the freezer thermistors say , we're ok also , then the refrigerator will cycle off , until a thermistor asks to be cooler again . The fan works off D C voltage , in which fan speed is regulated (faster or slower) , by the thermistors "talking" to the control board .

In our 22 cu ft GE SxS fridge /freezer, the freezer fan speeds up and slows down frequently and creates a whoooing sound like a quiet hoot owl when reaching the peak speed of the speed up phase of the ebb...

I have had some of these units making noises like this. One I found was leaking water down from the water inlet tube and in behind the ice maker and behind another panel that shoots up to the ice maker and building up behind that panel and causing a whistling sound. Removing the ice build up solved this one problem but couldn't find solution to the problem for the other. Dismissed it to change in the weather and expanding and contracting of the liner of the unit. Hope this helps.

Freezer fan surges up and down

Don't worry, that is a variable speed DC fan motor. Fan speed is regulated by the mother board as needed.
